Happy New Year!

Today is the celebration of the Spring Festival / Lunar New Year in Chinese cultures. Following a modified lunar calendar, the Lunar New Year in China shifts between 21 January and 20 February from year to year. Within Chinese society, some people travel to visit family in the week leading up to the New Year, and in contemporary China many watch the televised New Year's Gala on the night of the New Year. Fireworks, lion dances, and visits to temples also become ways of marking the arrival of the New Year.

Study in Asia

If you are interested in studying in Asia in Summer 2019, you can go on a UA Faculty-Led trip with other students from UA, or you can go through one of the Affiliated, Direct Enroll, or Exchange programs. UA has relationships with multiple universities in Asia (5 universities in Japan, 3 in South Korea, 2 in China, and 1 in Taiwan) as well as a variety of third-party providers. For more information, check out the Education Abroad page of the Capstone International Center, but be aware that deadlines are fast approaching for Summer 2019.

Scholarships for Studying Asia
The University has several university-wide scholarships that promote the study of Asia. The Miyagawa Scholarship provides support to a UA undergraduate studying Japanese language on campus or abroad. The Ron Robel Scholarship supports students studying abroad, with first priority going to those studying in Asia. Both of these programs have deadlines of February 21, so you need to apply quickly. Also, check out the scholarship page on the Asian Studies website and Capstone International Center for other ways of getting help funding your study of / in Asia.
