Manure Sale Information and Club Annual General Meeting
|
|
|
Please attend this meeting beginning at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 26. The agenda is below. A note to those who don't plan to attend the AGM is that you are most welcome to stay, but you are welcome leave after the Manure Sale meeting:
Manure Sale
The manure sale is a very big part of our fundraising and we require every member to come out and help so we can get it all done.
To offset the work the volunteers have to do for the actual sale we try to get other groups to bag for us. If you happen to know a group that would be willing to help out with this we would be grateful. The date of the bagging is March 23/24 and church groups/schools for Dry Grad/soccer teams are just some of the groups we have paid an honorarium to in the past. Please contact Judy at 250-319-6321 if you know of anyone interested in participating.
Volunteer Positions With the Club
Fundraising Coordinator-We would like a parent to take on the lead position of fundraising. This would be a 3-4 people on a committee but we need a few extra fundraisers from time to time.
We would like to see a fundraiser like a steak or chicken dinner that includes club member get together to raise funds or a spaghetti dinner etc. I would be willing to sit on that committee to generate some extra funds.
Uniform Coordinator: We need a parent to take on the job for athlete uniforms. Currently, there is no one looking after this task and the athletes would like to have uniforms before we go outside. They also want to have singlets to wear to represent the club during competition. Brad Yamaoka from Big Kahuna Sports will be at the track shortly to show us what he has, there are basically two times each year that this coordinator job is required, once in the spring and once in the fall. Please inform Judy if you have an interest in taking on this position.
Medal Coordinator: We are also looking for someone to help with the medals. Dayl Dhaliwal has been looking after the medals. However, she also coaches the Track Rascal program so it is quite a big job. The requirement is to be there during the competitions to help hand the medals out. The job is not big but does require a time commitment.
Records Coordinator: The club is looking for someone to take on the task of keeping track of our athletes' indoor/outdoor records. This is a big job but can be done over time. We think it would be a team builder to have records posted outside for outdoor competitions and inside for indoor competitions. Records are something that motivates people and athlete names can stay on the list for quite a few years.
If you are interested in this project please call Judy at 250-319-6321.
Mini-Meet
The next Mini-meet inside TCC will be on Thursday, March 7 to give our athletes another opportunity to practice a few events prior to the Van Ryswyk meet at the end of March.
Twilight Meets
Once we go into the Outdoor Season and move outside, we plan to include some Twilight meets that would likely not be longer than 2-3 hours on various Wednesday nights There will be more information coming but the plan is to have these events low key and fun. This will give our athletes opportunities to get a mark and prepare for the outdoor season and competitions if they so choose, Often there will be only 2-3 events offered over a couple of hours after practice.
Competitions
We encourage everyone to help volunteer with the competitions that are upcoming. We have quite a few this year and require help at all of them. This is where adult family members can volunteer and use the hours toward working off their Family Volunteer Fees. We would hope that you would work more than the 12 hours that this fee covers because we always need lots of assistance.
We have the Gary Reed Indoor Meet this weekend and then the Van Ryswyk Indoor/BC Masters Indoor Championship Meet in March which is our last indoor event.
Our first outdoor meet will be the Battle of the Border for high school athletes in BC and Alberta. We anticipate over 500 athletes in attendance and hope that we can get
all high schools in our area involved. We encourage high school athletes to participate and represent their school. Some Alberta schools are committed to coming to this event which gives it its name “ Battle of the Border”.
Information on other outdoor meets held in Kamloops this year will be in future newsletters.

Possible Sport Coach Clinic
Are you or anyone you know interested in becoming a coach? Think about parents, teachers, older athletes. BC Athletics wants to put on a clinic in Kamloops on March 15-17 and we need 8 people to make it work.
An introduction to Track and Field: This course teaches the basic skills of all events in track and field. It is ideal for the generalist coach that may be coaching introductory-intermediate level athletes in multiple events, often in a school or club, at a junior high – high school level. This course will start you on your way to becoming a Certified Athletics Competition Introduction Coach with the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
