Another Rosalie

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I felt real lucky to make it on time to Madison, WI, for Sun Valley Fiber’s January Thaw retreat. I didn’t fly through Chicago, and I just missed arriving in a snow storm. Whew!

While I was there, I took the opportunity to start another Rosalie in Sun Valley’s super-awesome MCS fingering.

I’d been meaning to knit another Rosalie for a while. I wear the original gray Rosalie all the time, and I wanted to see what she’d look like in two colors. Honestly? I probably spent 45 minutes choosing speckled 009 and matching Bentley from Sun Valley’s amazing selection of colors – but it was time well spent! I’m loving the results.

If you want to knit your own multi-color Rosalie, it’s easy. Change color when switching between garter and lace (like I am) or whenever you like. Use two colors, or try a gradient set. (Hmm... I have just the right gradient set in my stash...) Just be sure to change color on a right-side row, so each garter ridge is all one color. Or not. It’s your Rosalie!

Swatching brioche triangles

Also on my needles at the moment: lots of little brioche swatches. I’ve been experimenting with ways to knit top-down triangle shawls. Eight new stitches every six rows seems to be the trick to getting the right shape. You can see I’ve been playing with both I-cord and garter-stitch edges, and with both single- and two-color brioche.

Next up: playing with patterning within that shape. Stay tuned!

Want to learn to knit brioche? My Patterned Brioche class is sold out at both Stitches West and Stitches United... but there’s still room in Brioche Wristers at Stitches West!

Stitch map sightings

I love love love seeing stitch maps in use! Two recent sightings are notable. Lucy Neatby shared a photo of her blanket WIP... and you can make out the blanket’s stitch map at the top of the photo.

And Lorilee Beltman was inspired to add her “Colors that Climb” to a stitch pattern she saw posted on the Stitch Maps page on Facebook.

Staying in touch

Staying in touch with what’s happening at Stitch-Maps.com has never been easier. In addition to our Facebook page and Ravelry group, I’ve fixed things so that it’s super-simple to follow Stitch-Maps.com via feed readers like Feedly. This way, you can be notified every time someone adds a new stitch pattern or swatch photo to the site. I don’t know about you, but I do like being able to scroll through all the new swatch photos.

Here’s a quick run-down of some popular feed readers to get you started:
  • Feedly is available as a website or as a mobile app. With Feedly, click “ADD CONTENT,” then enter “Stitch-Maps.com.” Feedly will then let you choose which feeds you want to follow.
  • Like Feedly, you can use Inoreader via its website or its mobile app. With Inoreader, do a search for “Stitch-Maps.com.” Then choose which feeds you want to subscribe to.
  • Many browsers now have feed-reader extensions – for Firefox, Feedbro is popular. With Feedbro, go to any page at Stitch-Maps.com, then select “Find Feeds in Current Tab” from the Feedbro menu.
Customer service, slightly delayed
Back last summer, I posted a sad photo of a busted Chibi needle case. When I was told that Clover was good about replacing damaged goods, I filled out he customer service form on their website... and nothing happened. So I threw the busted case away.

Fast-forward a few months, and I get an email from Clover apologizing for a website glitch that prevented them from seeing my customer-service claim. (These things happen, right?) And then they replaced the case, complete with new tapestry needles!

Normally, they ask that you send in the damaged goods before sending out replacements, but they made an exception in this case. How cool is that? Thanks, Clover!

Upcoming events

I still can’t tell you about a number of events that are likely to be on my calendar soon, but for which contracts have not yet been signed. (You know what they say about contracts, right? Paraphrasing slightly: “Contracts are agreements signed by two honorable business people in case one turns out to be a jerk.”) So in lieu of exciting new announcements, let me just remind you of what’s coming up quick.
