State Membership Update

It's never too late to submit your chapter membership rosters or add additional members. Our Tennessee DECA goal is to surpass 6,500 members. The minimum chapter size is 10 student members and one chapter advisor (or any combination of 11 paid members). The only exception is in the case of a new or reactivated chapter, which has two years to obtain the minimum chapter size. As of Feb. 4, our association has 6,000 members!

Required CTSO Release Form

All 2018-19 CTSO conference participants must have a signed CTSO release form on file before the conference begins. Please click here to download a copy of the form. Advisors must keep all release forms in their possession at all times and be prepared to show them at the registration table of any CTSO (or DECA) conference. Attendees without a signed form on file will be sent home from the conference and will be unable to participate.

Honorary Life Member Nominations

One of the most prestigious honors a Tennessee marketing teacher can receive is to become a Tennessee DECA Honorary Life Member. Tennessee DECA is now accepting nominations for this award. The nomination form must be submitted by 5 p.m. CT on Feb. 15, 2019.

For more information and a listing of current Honorary Life Members, please visit the Tennessee DECA Honorary Life Member webpage.

State Career Development Conference (SCDC) Dress Code

Professional appearance is an important aspect to the overall preparation of DECA members for the business world. To that end, Tennessee DECA supports a dress code for its career-based functions that exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism while being non-discriminatory between males and females.

The following official dress standards for the Tennessee DECA State Career Development Conference are mandatory for all student members, advisors, and chaperones. The official dress code can also be found here.

Competitors must wear a suit jacket/blazer or an official DECA blazer during interactions with any judge. Professional attire should also be worn to all conference sessions. For a more polished, professional appearance, it is recommended that students wear appropriate hosiery/socks.

State Career Development Conference (SCDC) Non-Competitive Opportunities

Voting Delegates
  • Each chapter is encouraged to bring two voting delegates to the state conference. Every voting delegate must be registered as a voting delegate to represent their chapter in the voting delegate sessions. Competitors are not allowed to be voting delegates.
#ReadyForIt Leadership Academy
  • This leadership development academy is for non-competing students only. In the #ReadyForIt leadership academy, students will learn strategies to develop their local chapter and engage their community while networking with Tennessee DECA leaders of today and tomorrow. Each chapter is allotted up to five spots for this academy. The academy's content will be directed to freshman, sophomore, and junior members.
Hospitality Committee
  • The hospitality committee is the glue that holds the state conference together behind the scenes. Members of this committee will help prepare conference registration materials; welcome and escort judges to their assigned areas; serve as runners for the advisors working the competitive events; assist in setting up the opening and closing sessions and awards banquet; and assist the state advisor and other conference management staff as needed throughout the conference. This small group of students are the go-to crew for anything that needs a little extra attention or assistance during the conference. Students must apply to be a part of this team. Consider your current or potential chapter officers who are extremely responsible, mature, and task-oriented for this role. The application can be found here. Chapter advisors will be notified once all applications have been reviewed and the strongest applicants have been selected to serve in this capacity. The application deadline is Feb. 8, 2019 by 5 p.m. CT.
*All participants must be current, paid members of DECA.
