Thank you for all you are doing to prevent the buildout of
fracked gas infrastructure in New York!

Alliance for a Green Economy and Sane Energy Project have been following utility company Consolidated Edison’s petition for “Smart Solutions” in Westchester County over the past months. “Smart Solutions” is a clever title, and, while some of the solutions are indeed compatible with moving to 100% renewable energy, the ConEd petition also contains FALSE solutions that must NOT be approved.

Call Governor Cuomo at 888-877-2040.
Ask him 1) to support the energy efficiency and geothermal heat pump segments of the petition and 2) to strongly oppose the gas expansion segment.

Increasing energy efficiency and installing heat pumps are solutions in the ConEd petition that we do support. However, we are very concerned about the way that ConEd's gas moratorium for Westchester County is being described as a crisis for development and the economy and about the FALSE solutions of trucking and storage of fracked gas that are being portrayed as alternatives to pipelines. A gas moratorium for new construction is an opportunity to expand renewable heating and cooling, grow the heat pump industry in NYS, install more energy efficiency measures (and grow the energy efficiency industry), and protect utility customers from having to pay for what will soon be outdated fossil fuel technology. However, some companies and developers are stoking fears that no more construction will be able to happen if more gas isn't available. This is ridiculous because there are cleaner heating options that work right now -- like geothermal and air-source heat pumps.

The Public Service Commission has put the ConEd “Smart Solutions” petition on the agenda and will likely make a decision at the Thursday, February 7 meeting. We are concerned that the Public Service Commission will approve the entire “Smart Solutions” package, including the trucking and buildout of storage facilities for compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquified natural gas (LNG) in Westchester County.

We must alert the Governor ahead of Thursday’s PSC meeting.

Call Governor Cuomo at 888-877-2040.
Ask him 1) to support the energy efficiency and geothermal heat pump segments of the petition and 2) to strongly oppose the gas expansion segment.

We have an “all hands on your phones” moment today, Tuesday, February 5 to prevent trucking (#BombTrucks) and construction of new storage facilities for CNG and LNG in Westchester County, NY.

Please make the call. And then help get word out to your lists, groups, and networks so that we have broad participation and our voices opposing gas infrastructure buildout in Westchester County are heard.

Thank you!
