"[R]esearchers used spatial modeling to explore the potential relations between ahu construction locations and the islanders’ three most critical resources – rock mulch agricultural gardens, marine resources and freshwater sources. Their results suggest that ahu locations are explained by their proximity to the island’s limited freshwater sources."
"The team is working off data sets from Willow Creek Reservoir near Heppner in Eastern Oregon to create their own. This is the closest body of water where similar drone technology has been used to identify bacteria in the water, though other bodies of water in the U.S., such as Lake Erie, have been analyzed this way, too."
“To continue innovating and manufacturing in Oregon, Intel is investing in adaptable waste management systems,” Intel said in a written statement Tuesday. “The support of Business Oregon and the Oregon Private Activity Bond Committee to finance this project will help further economic development, environmental sustainability, and support the state’s small businesses through Intel’s supply chain impacts.”
"The Oregon Water Resources Department is now considering a change to the rules, which would limit regulation to wells within 500 feet of surface waters in the basin, effectively reducing the number of wells subject to shutdowns from 140 to seven."

"Don Gentry, tribal chairman of the Klamath Tribes, said courts have affirmed that tribal water rights date back to time immemorial and they need to be protected...We sometimes feel like the lone ranger or the enemy in the community, but we have senior water rights,” Gentry said."

"The current proposed rule change would establish procedures for control of groundwater uses to protect senior surface water rights in the Upper Klamath basin, while longer term water management in the area is developed. The proposed rules are intended to be in effect until March 1, 2021 when more comprehensive rules are expected to be adopted after significant Basin input."

"Groundwater is not at risk from cyanotoxins, which is why Salem is looking to dig wells to support its surface water system. Fernandez said the goal is to be able to draw 6 million to 10 million gallons of water per day at the treatment plant."
"There are multiple challenges associated with the research, but Jarvis said groups are working toward innovative solutions."
"The legislative proposal is one component of a broader plan to conserve the region’s groundwater by instead piping Columbia river water to irrigators at a cost of $72 million in private investment and $11 million in state dollars."
