THE ISLANDER SPECIAL EDITION - FAREWELL LINDSAY AND THE SUNDOWNER CARNIVAL

Farewell Lindsay Bistrup

One of Trigg’s finest Volunteers and a true gentleman, a long serving Life Member who was recognised and awarded the 50-year Volunteer Badge for services rendered to the Surf Lifesaving movement by the State Govt.

Lindsay first became involved in surf lifesaving when he joined Surf Lifesaving Victoria in the early 1950s. When his employer transferred him to WA in 1971, he joined Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club. After another work-related transfer interstate and back, he finally was able to settle at Trigg SLSC in 1985 and stayed ever since. Lindsay had held various positions at the club, including vice president, competition officer, interclub competition officer, director of coaching and competition, club gear officer, club trustee and march past coach male and female for many years. In 1995 Lindsay was made a life member and remained actively involved until recently.

His presence will always remain around the club with the “Dads Army” work area named “The Lindsay Bistrup Gear Shed”. Too great to ever be forgotten.

Deepest sympathy to the Bistrup family.

.................................................................
Lindsay’s Funeral will be held on Monday 11th February 2019
12.30pm at Pinnaroo Cemetery

Please wear Club Attire if you have it.

Directors Report

We launch this Saturday afternoon (9/2/19) the inaugural Trigg Island SLSC Sundowner Carnival. An initiative brought to fruition by our ever-active Surf sports team with setup facilitated by the ever-personable Brian Boots Campbell and the army of volunteers. This weekend is financially important for our proud club as SLSWA adapts an event model that in the coming years will be delivered by clubs. Mullaloo successfully delivered a Junior Carnival in January, and in turn provided them with renumeration similar to a Gold Sponsor.

There will be giveaways on the beach, $1500 in prize money across the categories of racing, DJ on the beach with a carnival/event atmosphere at the home of surf, Trigg. All presentations will be held in our courtyard at the conclusion where Trigg’s very own acoustic soloist, Matt, will deliver his sultry sounds and of course our resident chef Jason Smith will have the prawns jumping, the squid bubbling and the chorizo cracking when he plates up his famous Trigg Island SLSC Paella. We as a board support this opportunity and we enthuse all of you to be a part of it, remember if you’re a Masters competitor you can still compete in the open category.

Whilst the first 6 months provided an opportunity to maintain a strong commitment to fiscal constraint with limited outgoings, we have had an influx of repairs both vehicle and building. We have replaced the alternator in the vehicle, upgraded the exhaust cooling fan system in the bar cool room and we are currently looking to upgrade our freezer capacity in the kitchen and turnover our hall tables and chairs to meet the quality and demands of our hall booking service. We welcome any member/s who may assist the team in relation to the freezer/s and hall furniture. Please reach out to Bronwyn at the office and she will direct you to the person to talk to.

Whilst we now move into the competition faze of the season, Bronwyn’s workload is increasing. Bronwyn has spent time during January undertaking advanced Microsoft Office training and her newly acquired skills have had and will continue to have a positive, direct impact on daily operations as Club Administrator, with many new initiatives to be curated in the coming months. We have also been refining a payment gateway solution with Westpac and we are very close to launching this to our membership so stay tuned for details.

The bar team lead by Anthony O’Shea continue to represent our events and hire obligations at the highest level. Marie Waldeck, Merchandise, is retiring at seasons end and we are looking for a suitable replacement to take on this role, please contact Bronwyn at the office should you wish to apply. Marie has implemented many operational initiatives in the shop, and this will ensure a smooth transition to a new person. The kitchen on Sundays continues to be extremely busy and whilst our resident Chrisso undergoes some minor body repairs, able people such as Phil Bright, Sars and Pip and Justin Meldrum continue our Sunday tradition of the best chips and BLT’s on the coast. Thankyou also to the teams of junior parents who function as the supporting cast.
As all Directors have articulated, we are open for business and all ideas are welcomed, so get involved and we’ll see you on the beach.

When’s the last time you did something for the first time?

Director of Finance and Administration
