Your Major and General Education (GE)courses are important, but did you know that you also have to complete the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement(GWAR) for graduation eligibility. There are options for you to choose from. Determine which option is best for you and do it before time runs out.

What is the Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement [GWAR]?

The GWAR is a requirement for graduation that all students that are going to a Cal State University have to take. The students have to take it in order to be certify that they have proficient writing skills.

THREE OPTIONS TO COMPLETE THE GWAR:

1. The Graduation Writing Exam (GWE)

  • Offered 5x a year: twice in Fall, twice in Spring, and once in the Summer in July.

  • Students have only two opportunities to take the exam to pass. If they're not successful upon two tries, they'll have to explore the other two options

  • $35 registration fee.

  • Click HERE to register for upcoming exams and to get more information on the GWE

2.ENG 350

  • Earn three upper division units towards the 120 total needed for graduation

  • Offered during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

3. IDS 397 and IDS 398

  • Earn 2 upper division units per each course for a total of 4 towards the 120 total needed for graduation

  • Classes must be completed consecutively, one each semester

  • Get one-on-one faculty instruction for writing assignments you have due in another course, which is a great opportunity to possibly receive a more successful grade in that class

  • An excellent option for students who are not confident in their writing abilities or are intimidated by writing in English because it is not their native/first language

MEET THE TRANSFER
PEER COACHES!

We here at the UAC (University Advisement Center) are so excited to welcome you to this new academic school year. We are also very excited to welcome you all to our peer mentor program, Dominguez Hills Transfer Learning Program (#DHTLC). The goal for DHTLC is to help and support students in being successful their first-year here at Dominguez Hills. We understand the transition from a community college to a four-year institution can be intimidating, confusing, overwhelming, and so much more. These are the reasons why #DHTLC was established. In addition, we are here to give the incoming transfer students the confidence they need to explore what Dominguez Hills University has to offer. At #DHTLC we will connect our mentees with the proper resources they may need to get the most out of their college experience. Again, welcome, we at the UAC are so excited to have you all here and welcome to Toro Country.
