Ennis Book Club Festival 2019

We have less than one month to go to the 13th Ennis Book Club Festival and we are working harder than ever in the run-up to the Festival. Deputy-Mayor of Ennis, Paul Murphy launched our programme on Thursday 31st January at the third Beyond Borders Book Club where South African Deirdre Yvelteron shared her love of Mafeking Road with Sarah Clancy and the Beyond Borders Book Club audience. Over the next few weeks, we will be checking out our new venues, meeting with our volunteers and having our final Beyond Borders Book Club with Evgeny Shtorn on Thursday 21st of February. So, it is all go!

Do keep in touch with all our news by following us on Facebook and Twitter and register for our monthly newsletter on: www.ennisbookclubfestival.com.

This month’s issue contains:

The Clare Champion Window Display Competition

We are delighted to announce that we have joined forces with The Clare Champion newspaper to run a book themed window display competition for Ennis based businesses during the lead up to the Festival. Entrants are asked to create a book festival themed window display from Friday February 22 until the conclusion of the festival on Sunday March 3. Every business that enters will be given two free tickets to an event during the Ennis Book Club Festival. A judging committee, comprising of representatives from the Ennis Book Club Festival and The Clare Champion, will select a winner which will be announced at the Thrillers event on Sunday 3rd of March. So check out the window displays as you wander around Ennis; and share your favourites with us through Facebook and Twitter - #EBCF2019

EBCF Recommends

Anne Griffin's When All is SaidFor February the team in EBCF recommends Anne Griffin’s When All is Said.

At the bar of a grand hotel in a small Irish town sits 84-year-old Maurice Hannigan. He's alone, as usual, though tonight is anything by. Pull up a stool and charge your glass, because Maurice is finally ready to tell his story.

Over the course of this evening, he will raise five toasts to the five people who have meant the most to him. Through these stories, of unspoken joy and regret, a secret tragedy kept hidden, a fierce love that never found its voice, the life of one man will be powerfully and poignantly laid bare.

Heart-breaking and heart-warming all at once, the voice of Maurice Hannigan will stay with you long after all is said.

"A hugely enjoyable, engrossing novel, a genuine page-turner." Donal Ryan

"An extraordinary novel, a poetic writer, and a story that moved me to tears." John Boyne
