It's hard to believe that the 2019 Reservation Economic Summit is less than seven weeks away! We have been putting the finishing touches on the largest economic development event in Indian Country, which is moving to Paris Las Vegas this year. We have recently released the first draft of our agenda. As you can see, topics run the gamut, from tribal economic diversification, to energy, agriculture, telecommunications, gaming, contracting, business development, technology and IT, and much more. Staff Spotlight: Alia Hauter, Comms Director

Our latest staff profile focuses on Alia Hauter, the National Center's new Communications Director. Alia has an extensive background in public relations and marketing, as well as business development for her tribe and other Native and non-Native organizations. When she's not preparing for the upcoming Reservation Economic Summit or a rebrand of the National Center, you can find her with her sons or hanging out with her friends - probably on a boat! Key Legislation Passes Senate Committee

A month into the new Congress, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee has already passed legislation strongly supported by the National Center and other Indian Country organizations. Read our joint letter with many of these groups in support of the Indian Community Economic Enhancement Act and the Native American Business Incubators Program Act. We thank Chairman John Hoeven (ND) and Vice Chairman Tom Udall (NM) for their continued support!

Tribal Business Spotlight: Waséyabek Development Company and CEO Deidra Mitchell


In our continuing series of spotlighting Native and tribally-owned businesses, we talked to Deidra Mitchell, who is the CEO of Waséyabek Development Company, LLC, (WDC), a wholly-owned entity of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi that's based in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Deidra uses her wealth of knowledge and experience to mentor and guide other new companies because she believes collaboration in Indian Country is key to success for everyone.

Country Music Star Matt Stillwell to Perform at RES!

Country music star Matt Stillwell will be one of our featured entertainers at the Reservation Economic Summit! Matt will perform on Wednesday, March 27th. Matt has produced multiple Top 50 singles on Billboard's Country Music chart, including his debut single "Shine." All full conference attendees for RES will get access to see Matt perform. One-day passes for Wednesday are also available.
