Growing Mission in Tampa
Two & a half years ago Tampa Bay became a 'mission field' of Global City Mission Initiative. There is a lot to celebrate in the first two & half years. Four different groups were planted that met for several months. Two of these scattered -- made up mostly of refugees who eventually relocated to other cities. Two groups continue to meet together in homes and nurture new faith and discipleship. One of our team members enjoyed a phone call from an Iraqi family who is preparing for baptism. They left Tampa but the seeds that were planted & watered here have grown & matured. One of the key aspects of GCMI's strategy is to see the transmission of the gospel from friends in global cities to their relationships in their countries of origin. It's been exciting to hear about a Buddhist mother sharing bible stories with her son in a strict, closed country of Southeast Asia or a Muslim friend forwarding scriptures via text to his family in South Asia.
We are excited about what God may continue do in Tampa Bay, an emerging global city, and we anticipate more opportunities to celebrate God's Kingdom breaking through. Pray with us for workers to be sent into the harvest of Tampa Bay. |
I was recently in Houston leading an evangelism training for a local church. While I was driving through the city, the opportunities to be salt & light among the nations was obvious. I passed halal (Muslim) cafes, a large Buddhist temple, and the sort of diversity of faces one might imagine when reading Revelation 7:9. And its exciting to imagine the impact that the body of Christ might have if we love our neighbors from around the world. What an amazing time to serve Jesus! Let us pray together for the
