NEWSLETTER - FEBRUARY, 2019

From the Desk of Our Executive Director

Since we didn’t send out a newsletter in January, I want to take this opportunity to say that I hope 2019 is a year of happiness, health and of reaching for your personal best in sharing some of your disposable resources with our fellow human beings who live in extreme poverty around the world.

As you know, our mission at The Life You Can Save is to assist you in actualizing your intentions to do good in the world by providing information about effective giving, including a list of charities that have been rigorously researched for transparency and impact. We are pleased to welcome two new organizations to that list for 2019: Zusha! and Malaria Consortium’s Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) program.

Zusha! is an innovative program that addresses the epidemic of injuries and fatalities from traffic accidents in developing countries. Stickers are placed inside of public service vehicles encouraging passengers to speak up to their drivers against dangerous driving. This extremely cost-effective intervention is proven to reduce accidents and save lives.

Malaria Consortium’s Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) program is a cost-effective and evidence-backed way of protecting young children from this crippling and deadly disease. You can read more about them in this month’s newsletter below.

I also want to share this wonderful video produced by MediaMath, a TLYCS partner. MediaMath’s 1% program is an example of how companies are adopting and spreading the model of effective giving. As you’ll see, the program has provided significant support for many of TLYCS’s recommended charities.

I am writing this from India, where I am back working with our colleagues at High Impact Philanthropy (HIP), an organization we co-founded to spread the concept and practice of effective giving in the Indian philanthropic ecosystem. This, along with an upcoming relaunch of Peter Singer’s book, The Life You Can Save, make 2019 a very exciting and promising year. Details on all this and more in next month's newsletter.

Good Living and Good Giving,

Charlie Bresler
