Hi!

I hope 2019 has been off to a great start. It’s been a while since our last newsletter and there’s a lot to catch up on. Let’s dive right in:

  • 🚨🚨Custom SQL functions🚨🚨 You can now directly query custom PostgreSQL functions in the Hasura GraphQL Engine’s API: Run queries (or subscriptions) such as👇

search_articles is a custom SQL function that takes a text input to search an article table
  • PostGIS topology operators: We have added native support for PostGIS topology operators as boolean GraphQL operators🌏. We've written a post on how to use them in the Hasura GraphQL API along with a list of supported topology operators.
Check out our release notes for all the details.

json2graphql

json2graphql is an open-source CLI tool that imports a JSON file to initialise schema and data in Postgres and then allows you to start querying it with GraphQL. The GitHub repo also lists out various use-cases and contains sample datasets that you can use to try it out.

3factor update

We've written detailed explanations for why we chose realtime GraphQL, reliable eventing and async serverless as the 3 factors in the 3factor app architecture.

We have also put out a demo app that illustrates the 3factor principles.

✍️ Introducing the Hasura Technical Writer Program

We are looking for technical content related to the Hasura GraphQL Engine. You can submit relevant articles and we will pay you between $100 & $300 for each article of yours that we publish.

You can read more about the program and what kind of content we are looking for here.

🎙️ Speaking at an event? We want to help!

If you’re speaking at a conference or a meetup about Hasura, we'll help you prep, practise and even send you swag to give away! We’ve put together all the ways we can help in this blogpost.

🐧 Call for open source contributions

The Hasura GraphQL Engine has been blessed with an active and vibrant community that’s helped us get over 6,500 stars in just a few months🙏.

We have written up a guide on how you can contribute. We would like to make sure that the GraphQL Engine project will always be a welcoming place for contributors, especially first-timers.

Conferences and Meetups

The Hasura team will be speaking at conferences and meetups across USA, Europe and India in the next few months. Keep an eye on our community page to know where we'll be next.

I will also be in the Bay Area in Feb and March. If you’d like to catch up over ☕️/🍺  just send me a DM on Twitter.

Cheers!
