Regional Committee Vacancies

The BD Scotland regional committee is seeking to fill two vital roles within the committee. We are currently looking for coaching and senior training representatives.

We are open minded about the location of the reps and indeed whether each role is allocated to one person or perhaps shared between two at different locations across the region.  The committee is very high energy and many areas have benefited from new views over the last year.  We now want to add like minded individuals so that coaches and senior training can get the same attention. Application deadlines have been extended to Friday 1 March.

Click on each role to view more information about the coach rep and senior training rep. Click here to download a regional committee application form.
Educational Workshops!

Back by popular demand we have more educational workshops with Harry Payne for 2019. The workshops are a great development opportunity for coaches, judges and riders. Each workshop focuses on a specific technical area which is discussed while we view guinea pig riders.

5 March - Scales of Training  (Fountain, Aberdeenshire)
16 April - 'Trot: collected to extended' (Fountain, Aberdeenshire)
14 May - Pirouettes (Muirmill, Ayrshire)

Equine Flu Information

In light of the recent cases of equine flu we thought it would be useful to remind all members of the BD rules around flu vaccinations.

Rule 9 (p58 of the 2019 Members’ Handbook) states: To protect the health of the other competing horses and the biosecurity of the venue, a valid passport must accompany the horse to all competitions and be produced on request. Failure to comply is a disciplinary offence and will debar the horse from competing at the event for which it has been entered. A horse will not be permitted to compete unless it has a current vaccination against equine influenza which complies with the following conditions:
  • An initial course of two injections for primary vaccination, not less than 21 days and not more than 92 days apart, are required before being eligible to compete
  • A first booster injection must be given between 150 and 215 days after the second injection of primary vaccination
  • Subsequent booster injections must be given at intervals of not more than one calendar year, commencing after the first booster injection
  • Vaccinations must have been administered at least seven days before the competition.
  • The vaccination record(s) in the horse’s passport, must be completed, signed and stamped line by line, by an appropriate veterinary surgeon (who is neither the owner nor the rider of the horse). For those competing under FEI rules, please refer to FEI rules.
The responsibility to comply with this rule lies with the competitor who should consult with their veterinarian. Click here to view a handy online checker from the BHA.

If it’s been longer than six months since the last vaccination we recommend discussing a booster with your veterinary surgeon.
