System operation & flexibility solutions required to meet the ambition of 50% renewables on the European electricity grid by 2030

 
Following the first newsletter published in September 2018, EU-SysFlex now presents the second issue. During the past months, we organised the second General Assembly, created an introductory project video, published the first technical deliverables and launched our blogging platform.

ALL AVAILABLE PROJECT RESULTS
From December 2018 to March 2019, we published 8 new public deliverables in 6 different Work Packages. Work Package 2 includes a state-of-art literature review, EU-SysFlex scenarios and models for simulating technical scarcities. The deliverable of Work Package 3 is business use cases for innovative system services. Work Package 4 published a deliverable on the qualification trial process for technology integration. Demonstrators system use cases were produced by Work Package 6. The deliverable of Work Package 8 is on demonstration specification for field testing aggregation approaches. And, finally, Work Package 8 published a public report on the selection of KPIs for the demonstrations.

EU-SysFlex celebrated its first year in Portugal’s Electricity Museum
 
NOVEMBER  2018  /  Energias de Portugal (EDP), one of EU-SysFlex’s consortium members, hosted the project’s second General Assembly. The meeting marked the first year of the research project and recognized the technical achievements including progress in the identification of the needs of the European electricity system with more than 50% of renewables.

EU-SysFlex was presented at a brainstorming workshop of TSOs in Tallinn, Estonia
 
DECEMBER 2018 / EU-SysFlex was presented at a workshop of TSOs in Tallinn, Estonia. The event was organized by Elering and ENTSO-E and focused on the issue of data access. EU-SysFlex can cooperate with TSOs even more to ensure crossborder energy data sharing and easy access to information from smart meters for consumers and other stakeholders.

NOVEMBER  2018 / EDP hosted EU-SysFlex’s second General Assembly. As EDP’s CEO João Torres highlighted in his address, his company focuses within EU-SysFlex on the interactions between distribution and transmission system operators and on empowering consumers.
EU-SysFlex was presented at Horizon 2020 Energy Info Day
 
OCTOBER  2018 / EU-SysFlex project was invited to present at the Horizon 2020 Energy Info Day. Project Director John Lowry discussed the most important steps and key challenges linked to submitting a high-quality Horizon 2020 project proposal.

Cornwall Insight Ireland: Old friends: the hidden good side of the EU
 
JANUARY 2019 / Cornwall Insight recognizes EU-SysFlex as one of the projects to have received EU funding to increase the level of renewable energy integration into the European grid systems and to identify the challenges and solutions to system operation with high penetration of wind, solar and other non-synchronous renewable generation on the electricity networks.

OCTOBER 2018 / BRIDGE Newsletter cites 
EU-SysFlex’s activities in 2017 which among others were: presentations at the European Parliament, SET Plan 2017, Eole Industrie 2018 and the Horizon 2020 Energy Info Day, and the launch of the cross-border data exchange platform by Elering and ESO.
