GBPW votes to extend loan repayment awards for 2019

The Georgia Board for Physician Workforce voted during its quarterly meeting in January to award to 44 physicians, 12 dentists, 17 physician assistants and 22 advanced practice registered nurses through its service-cancelable loan repayment programs for 2019.
 
“The Board appreciates the determination and dedication these rural practitioners deliver to their respective communities,” GBPW Chairman Antonio Rios, M.D. said. “This year, these awards will reflect the hard work of 95 recipients practicing in 61 different counties who are bringing much needed health care access to rural Georgia.”
 
A full list of loan repayment recipients and their practice location counties will be available on the GBPW’s website after all contracts are fully executed.

First malpractice premium assistance awards approved

The Georgia Board for Physician Workforce voted during its January meeting to approve two applications for the new Medical Malpractice Insurance Premium Grant program.

House Bill 769, which was passed by the General Assembly during the 2018 legislative session and signed by then-Gov. Nathan Deal, authorized the GBPW to provide medical malpractice insurance premium grants to physicians that maintain a practice in an underserved, rural area of the state that currently has one or less physicians. This program stemmed from health policy recommendations of the House Rural Development Council.

GBPW publishes FY 2018 annual, programming reports

Each year, the Georgia Board for Physician Workforce publishes reports about its activities, funding and programming from the previous fiscal year.  The GBPW seeks to keep lawmakers, members of the state’s medical community and the general public abreast of its loan repayment and scholarship programs, including names and practice locations of its recipients.
