February means Valentine's and we couldn't help adding some love to our newsletter, which also has a new name, Down The Blue; it was inspired by the popular expression used by locals.
We don't have cherubs with bows and arrows though we do have many special offers to share in this issue.
We have our regular community news and we are pleased to share a new comedy night at Shortwave cafe. Enjoy the reading and wish everybody celebrating it a happy Valentine's Day.

The origin of the expression
Following on from bygone days the area would have been relatively unchanged until London’s first passenger railway station at Spa Road in the 1830’s heralded a new era. Marshes and market gardens were replaced by factories and legendary brands such as Peek Freans (Biscuits), Shuttleworth’s (Chocolate), Pearce and Duffs (Custard) arose to offer employment for thousands of people and the landscape was rapidly transformed into something like the Blue as it is today.
To cater for the increase in population, shops and businesses began to inhabit the area and the Market emerged to consist of more than 200 stalls lining Southwark Park Road in its heyday. It was said; you could buy anything one could imagine from the stalls ‘Down the Blue’.
