A message from Helping With Furniture

Helping With Furniture is a volunteer organization founded in the Beacon Hill area in 2005. Many residents of Beacon Hill are already well acquainted with us, as we could not have helped over 1,700 families in need without the incredible support and donations we have received from our community. Through donations and volunteers, the organization provides furnishings for several families each week, delivering household goods and furniture directly to their homes. Our main objective is to serve people who belong to the most vulnerable groups of society by providing them with the basics that every house needs to feel like a home.

If you would like to donate lightly used household goods or furniture, you can do so by either dropping off items or arranging for pick-up. Items may be dropped off on Wednesday evenings (7:00 -9:00 pm) or on Saturday mornings (10:00 -12:00pm) at the warehouse, which is located at 5350 Canotek Rd, Unit 9. Alternatively, we can pick up larger items from your home by appointment.
Please see hwfottawa.org for details.
GREEN CORNER

Public Transportation, Blair Station
and Phase 2 of the LRT

Using public transportation is a great way to reduce our personal carbon footprint. The imminent launch of Ottawa's first phase of light rail from Blair station will make the service from Beacon Hill to downtown more convenient. Ecology Ottawa is conducting a research and community engagement project designed to identify challenges and opportunities for active transportation around Blair Station. Consider taking this quick survey to help the Ecology Ottawa project.

We are also excited for Phase Two of Light Rail which will bring light rail further east to Montreal Road and the 174. The city of Ottawa is currently considering whom to award the construction contract to, and the launch of Phase Two is currently scheduled for 2023.

SHACK RULES and HOURS of operation (for outdoor local rinks)

**There is an absolute ZERO tolerance policy for ANY cannabis use anywhere near the rinks or shacks. We had an incident, warnings were given out (and parents notified). Please be aware that the police will be notified for any future violations of the rules.

We are very lucky to have rink supervisors at our 3 rinks, who make it possible to keep the shacks open evenings and weekends. Being able to put on and take off skates in a warm shack is a luxury.

Shack hours for Eastvale & Fairfield rinks:
Monday-Friday: 6-9pm
Weekends: 10am-6pm

Shack hours for Jasmine:
Monday-Friday: 5-8pm
Weekends: 10am-6pm

Rink Supervisors still needed for
Jasmine and Fairfield Rinks

Are you 15+ years old?

Would you like to earn your volunteer hours by playing hockey or skating?
OR
Would you like to get a $10/hour stipend as a thank you for volunteering?

If you answered 'Yes' to either question...WE NEED YOU. You will be responsible for unlocking the skate shack, counting the skaters, and locking up afterwards (a few other small things, but that's the bulk of it). That whole time you can skate or play hockey, ringette, whatever.

Please fill in this quick form to let us know if you'd like to help!
