Late January and early February have certainly been challenging for so many farmers around the United States. Between weather and the government shutdown, ranchers are working overtime to keep their animals safe and farmers are struggling to finance spring planting.  But there is also good news! According to Politico's Morning Ag report, — "A record 13 women have been elected or appointed to lead state agriculture departments, a reflection of the industry’s growing gender diversity. And that number could rise, with five states’ top ag jobs still open."

INSTAGRAM TIPS

In our last newsletter I laid out the blueprint for the perfect Instagram profile. Did you change your bio as a result? Let me know! Here's part two in my mini-series in the next few newsletters on how to up your instagram game!
Instagram Engagement & Growth Strategies

Now that you have your instagram bio solid and people know who you are and what you do. Let's look at who to follow and how to engage with them.

First things, first - you need to make sure you know who your peers are in your niche - locally, nationally and globally. Seek them out and follow them! Find press outlets and individual journalists - both writers and photographers to keep on top of the latest news. You should also follow the influencers in your space to see what it is that they do that is successful.

Now - how do you engage with the people you follow?
  • Like their posts
  • Comment on their posts
  • Share their posts - use an app that places their username into the image and shares their original caption - my favorite is the Repost App
  • Highlight them as a favorite follow -  you can make it a weekly event and call it 'Farmer Crush Friday' where you share a favorite picture of theirs and why you enjoy following them.
  • Collaborate
    • tag each other
    • contests and giveaways
    • create a shared hashtag
