A Monk for Three Days

It's early February, how are you doing with your new year's resolutions? Are you working them with dedication? Have you already given up?

"Mikka Bouzu" is a Japanese proverb (kotowaza) that means "a monk for three days." It refers to a person that starts a new cause, but gives it up readily and moves onto something else. In other words, someone who gets bored easily, or gives up too quickly.

Don't be that! Instead, "ishi no ue ni mo sannen." That is, "on a stone for three years." In other words, be persistent.

Everything takes practice, everything takes doing. Healthy habits can take time to be established. If you need some help, see me! Therapeutic bodywork, movement and herbs, and advice on exercise, nutrition, sleep and meditation.
Axe Exercise
Join me on Sunday, February 24th, from 2-4p, at Sonoran Hills Park for my Become Sharp Like an Axe workshop! You'll learn a 20-minute routine (the above video shows just one of many forms), using an axe, that exercises your whole body while emphasizing shoulder mobility, core strength and powerful hands. In addition, we'll explore variations, focusing on practical and martial movement. Bring your own axe, hatchet, hammer, staff or club! Be sure to have a cover on any sharp edges. I'll take along a number of items to share with those not having their own. No worries if you're a beginner, this is for everyone. The cost is $50, and you may register and pay at my online store (select "Workshop," then the option "Become Sharp Like An Axe"). Park at the tennis courts and walk down the hill. I hope to see you there!

Sheep Bridge

In late January I overnighted at Sheep Bridge. To get there I drove the roughest road, and longest rough road, I’ve ever experienced. But, it was well worth it! Incredibly scenic, with a hot (warm) spring bath accessed by a tunnel through the reeds. Nature is wonderful.
