Deagon Ward E-News
February 2019
The year is off and racing with January just about a distant memory now! School is back and I've already had the opportunity to attend school leader induction ceremonies with plenty more to come. It's great to see a record number of schools participating in Council's Active School Travel program this year in the Deagon Ward with Shorncliffe, Sandgate and Nashville State Schools joined by Sacred Heart and St Kieran's Schools this year.
We have wrapped up our first big festival of the year, Australia Day by the Bay and planning is already under way for more great festivals and events in our special community. Keep a look out for the March edition of the Sandgate Guide for an exciting announcement of a brand new event coming to Sandgate this year for music lovers.
You may have seen recent media reports about the poor state of many footpaths across Brisbane. I have a number of surveys for new footpaths in Sandgate and Zillmere underway at the moment with recently completed footpaths in Taigum, Boondall and Brighton. If you see damaged or missing sections of footpaths, please report them to my office or directly to Council. I have joined several of my fellow Councillors in calling for more investment in footpath repair and maintenance.
Keep an eye out on my Facebook page to keep up to date with local news and events.
If you are part of a local community group and want me to feature an upcoming event in my e-news please contact my office to arrange this.
Cheers
