This year Ash Wednesday will be March 6th and our service at St. Patrick’s will be at 5:00 p.m. Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent; and this is one of our Holy Days.  Observance of the Ash Wednesday service is customary for proper devotion.

Betsy Randolph, not present, was commissioned this pat Sunday.
Do you have a guitar or banjo or ukulele or another stringed instrument?
Are you interested in becoming more proficient?  If so, we need your talents!  We are putting together a music group with FREE lessons, taught by John Waltz.

Our goal is to “grow our own” group to add joyful worship to our services and to help the congregation learn to sing with us, particularly at the earlier service.  We’ll be learning worship songs from a variety of sources.

Lessons will be every 2-3 weeks, with practices in between as schedules allow. Time & place to be determined, depending on the interest and where people live.

For more information, and to sign up please contact Kate Aldrich at kaldrich@sonic.net or call 539-9603.

From Left to right: Mary Field, Brooklyn, & Susan Boak

Hey St. Patrick's!

Yesterday, we had a lovely walk through the beautiful trees. We enjoyed the lush greenery that surrounded us. It was just the four of us; Mary Field, Susan Boak, Miriam Casey, & our four legged pal, Brooklyn! Even though it was a small group we still had a great time, loved being outside, and enjoyed the fellowship!

Our monthly walks are scheduled on the second Tuesday of the month and our next one will fall on March 12th at 10 a.m. Join us!
Please contact Miriam Casey for more details at (707) 843-7096.
A new Women's Bible Study will begin at St. Patrick’s. Pam Hamel and Miriam Casey will be leading this ministry. The women will be meeting on Thursday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Common Room at the church.  The study will be based on the Revised Common Lectionary Calendar with sessions focusing on the readings for each Sunday. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the Bible in general, as well as getting a preview of what will be happening on Sunday mornings.  Lectionary study guides will be available for $10.00 and coffee and pastries will be served. Our first meeting will be Thursday, February, 28th!
Call Miriam Casey at 707-843-7096 for more details or to reserve a place at the table.
  Spring Lake Dinner Group

The Spring Lake group’s first meeting was hosted by Barbara Fry, who provided splendid hors d’oeuvres and drinks in her apartment. 14 people attended, with two more traveling – which makes 16 who are participating at this time. The group decided to meet every two months, gathering for hors d’oeuvres in the Village Center (which is easy for everyone to reach).  For those who are interested in dinner afterwards, that month’s host will make dining room reservations.

For more information, or to join us, email Donna Ross at donna@faithmatters.us (preferred) or call 579-6871.

If you don't like in the Spring Lake area, you may contact Eleanor Albon:  281-610-8043 or ralbon@aol.com
We would like to thank Hutch Gibb for making the coffee after the 8:30 service and thank you to Susan Boak for hosting this coming Sunday! For the coffee hour after the 10:30 service, we would like to thank Carla Bryant, Brian Shinoda, & Eleanor Albon for being able to host this Sunday!
The Parish really enjoys this special time together and it means so much for each volunteer to be a part of it. If you enjoy meeting visitors and sharing time with other members of the St. Patrick’s family, please consider hosting a coffee hour.  Sign up sheets are in Stevenson Hall. Thanks so much!

First female bishop of Northern California elected:
The Reverend Canon Megan M. Traquair

The Reverend Canon Megan M. Traquair was elected the eighth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California at the diocese's Special Electing Convention on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Faith Episcopal Church, Cameron Park.

Bishop-Elect Megan is the first woman to be elected as bishop, selected from the first slate to ever include female candidates in the diocese of Northern California.

Rev. Canon Megan was elected on the third ballot with a vote of 151 lay delegates and 85 clergy. To be elected required a majority of both orders on the same ballot. The other candidates were The Rev. Matthew D. Cowden, The Rev. Christopher Brooke Craun, The Rev. Canon Andrea McMillin, and The Rev. Randall R. Warren.

Rev. Canon Megan is currently Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of Arizona. Her husband Philip is a pediatrician at Phoenix Children's Hospital. They have been partners and best friends as well as parents. They have two children: Hannah who teaches high school in Tucson, and Benjamin, who is an engineer in Colorado.
Notified of the election results, Megan said:

"It is with joy and gratitude that I accept your call to serve as the Eighth Bishop of the Diocese Northern California. I thank the Search, Transition and Standing Committees for their careful preparations and loving-kindness during these months.  Dozens of your leaders put in sacrificial amounts of time and energy to help the Diocese arrive at a common mind in Christ.  I am grateful. You are all - members, clergy and churches - very much in my prayers.  Philip and I are excited to make our home with you in Northern California.  This summer, by the grace of God, we will begin to practice the Jesus Movement together - in faith, reconciliation and service."

Bishop Barry L. Beisner said:

"As one who deeply loves this Diocese, I am personally most grateful to all five candidates for their faithful participation in this very demanding process. By making themselves available to the Holy Spirit in this way, they have given us a great gift. May they all be blessed. I ask all the people of God to join me in praying God's blessing upon The Rev. Canon Megan Traquair, our Bishop-Elect. God strengthen and sustain her in this time of profound transition to new ministry, and to an exciting opportunity to serve our Lord in Northern California."

Providing the Standing Committee receives the consents from a majority of the bishops of the Church and a majority of the Standing Committees of the dioceses, the consecration is scheduled for June 29, 2019 at the Mondavi Center in Davis. Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will preside.

O God, by your grace you have called us in this Diocese to a
goodly fellowship of faith. Bless our Bishop, Barry L. Biesner,
our Bishop-Elect, The Rev. Canon Megan Traquair,
other clergy, and all our people. Grant that your Word
may be truly preached and truly heard, your Sacraments
faithfully administered and faithfully received. By your
Spirit, fashion our lives according to the example of your
Son, and grant that we may show the power of your love to
all among whom we live; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
