News From Project Mañana!
Project Mañana Announces
Theme for the Year:
FE VALIENTE
Fe Valiente

Project Mañana is pleased to announced this year's theme:  Fe Valiente; which means Courageous Faith.

The key scripture for this theme comes from Matthew 14... Peter Walks on Water.  For the first half of the year, Project Mañana staff, volunteers, and those in our programs will focus on the Fundamentals of Faith.

In January we covered the “Recognition of Sin”.  February was focused on “Repentance”. During the remaining four months we will cover the “Revelation of Jesus” (March), the “Acceptance of Grace” (April), importance of “Trust” (May) and exhibiting “Obedience” (June).

Project Mañana's leadership team and staff are implementing this year's theme, along with key scriptures for each month and topic, in weekly staff devotions, all our projects, and throughout daily discussions with everyone who will be joining us for a short-term trip or internship.

As a special fundraiser, Fe Valiente shirts are available for purchase (in the Dominican Republic only); with all proceeds going to fund the expansion of the Iglesia Evangelica Punto Central.  This church is pastored by Project Mañana staff member Diogenes Beliard, and his wife Wendy, who also serves as Project Mañana's Social Worker.  This church is in the heart of San Pablo and currently occupies the former site of the Nutrition Center.

BIG NEWS: Nutrition Center is Complete!
Project Mañana is excited to announce that our brand new, state-of-the-art, 5,000 sq ft. Nutrition Center is complete, minus bathroom installations and paint!

The two-story building project began in November 2018 and faced some important challenges early-on through the government permitting process.  By the Lord's provision, Project Mañana was able to show the government how this nutrition center will bring a huge benefit to the community of San Pablo; gaining full approval to complete this project.  This incredible space will allow Project Mañana to expand its capacity to serve up to 600 children a nutritious meal on a daily basis.

Since 2010, Project Mañana has been dedicated to serving nutritious meals to children of the San Pablo community.  Currently, 271 children receive a hot and nutritious meal Monday through Friday.  The Nutrition team has expertly prepared these meals in less than adequate conditions – very small spaces with limited resources... but, not any longer!  This is a true testament to the strength and dedication of the Project Mañana Nutrition team!

Meals will soon be prepared in an industrial kitchen, with proper tools like stainless steel workspaces, an industrial stove, a large wash sink and counter space to serve the food.  There is even room for a large pantry, which will allow Project Mañana to purchase food in bulk for storage, providing significant savings.  Not to mention, a covered pavilion space for the children to eat their meals while enjoying the outdoor breeze.

The Nutrition Center will also have office space for Project Mañana staff and case workers; where they can conduct private counseling sessions and community meetings.  It will serve as yet another beacon of hope in a community faced with numerous challenges!

Hooray for New Hoops!
Basketball Court
The Project Mañana School Gets a Basketball Court

In a continued effort to provide our best possible, holistic care for the children that we serve, we recognize the importance of recreational health as a part of healthy child development.

Through an incredibly generous gift from a group of donors, we are very excited to announce that Project Mañana is building the first-ever basketball court in the community of San Pablo.

The covered court which will form the center of the Project Mañana's private school, Colegio Evangélico Aclamamos Por Su Sabiduría (We Praise Your Wisdom Christian School), is currently being built with quality materials; including a secure concrete pad, aluminum roofing, metal posts and durable hoops.

Not only will this court be used for basketball games, it will allow more than 100 children per day to use it as recreational space for large group games, gym class, and special activities.  When you know what the space consisted of before this gift – broken concrete pieces, dirt, rocks and
a completely unlevel playing space – you'll really appreciate how transformational this gift is!

Thank you to our special donors who believe in the vision of Project Mañana, one hoop at a time.

Ministry Highlight: El Pelotón (The Platoon)

In 2017, Matt Vryhoff assumed the role as Project Mañana's Discipleship Director.  Since then, Matt has been instrumental in developing discipleship programs and plans.

One of Matt’s main passions is to reach adolescent and teenage boys with Godly mentorship. So, in August 2018, Matt started a discipleship group for 10-15 boys, ages 11-18 in the community of San Pablo called El Pelotón, meaning The Platoon.

El Pelotón covers topics relating to what it means to be a “good soldier” for Christ, learning to be men of integrity, and how to have courageous faith.

"Sharing the gospel with these young men, and presenting it in such a way that they not only understand the message but can then apply it to their lives has been a very rewarding challenge," Matt says.

In a community where broken families, absent fathers, and drugs/alcohol/sex have become common place, the young men of El Pelotón are truly committed to bettering themselves and their community.
Happy Dominican Independence Day!
The Dominican Independence War gave the Dominican Republic autonomy from Haiti on February 27, 1844.

Before the war, the island of Hispaniola had been united under the Haitian government for a period of 22 years when the newly independent nation, previously known as the Captaincy General of Santo Domingo, was unified with Haiti in 1822. The criollo class within the country overthrew the Spanish crown in 1821 before unifying with Haiti a year later.

In 1844, the members of La Trinitaria chose El Conde, the prominent “Gate of the Count” in the old city walls, as the rallying point for their insurrection against the Haitian government. On the morning of 24 February 1844, El Conde rang with the shots of the plotters, who had emerged from their secret meetings to openly challenge the Haitians. Their efforts were successful, and for the next ten years, Dominican military strongmen fought to preserve their country's independence from their Haitian neighbors.

Each year, all schools in the Dominican Republic show their pride and gratitude for independence by parading through the community where the school is located.  The children sing and beat drums as they proudly march.

The students of Colegio Evangélico Aclamamos Por Su Sabiduría (We Praise Your Wisdom Christian School) were full of energy as they made their way through the city of Villa Gonzalez.

The Dove Family Joins Project Mañana
Project Mañana is excited to introduce our newest additions to the team... Chris and Marissa Dove, and their son Gideon (10).  The Dove family relocated from Akron, Ohio to Santiago, Dominican Republic this past January.

Project Mañana met the Doves at the International Conference on Missions (ICOM) in Peoria, IL in 2017.  The Doves came for a visit in February 2018 and were offered positions with Project Mañana shortly thereafter.  Since then, they have journeyed through the process of becoming fully-supported missionaries; and are now going through the process of cultural and language immersion in Santiago.

Chris is a children’s pastor with 15 years of experience in church ministry and after school Bible clubs.  His passion and enthusiasm in ministry are for families and children; helping them create a meaningful relationship with Christ as a family unit.  He is currently focused on building his first relationships with the families in the community of San Pablo.

Marissa is a professional business administrator with over 13 years of experience in project management, process innovation and program development.  In her most recent role, she was the office administrator for a non-profit in Akron.  She will play a key role in our office development as Project Mañana continues to expand and grow.

Please join our team in prayer for the Doves as they continue to settle into life in the Dominican Republic, as they learn Spanish, and as grow in the love and appreciation of the people and the culture.

Project Mañana Needs Your Help!
Project Mañana is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to sharing the gospel and break the cycle of poverty by investing in impoverished children, their families and communities through clean water, nutrition, education, and discipling projects.

We achieve our goals through charitable donations and child sponsorship, which unites children in need with individual sponsors who wish to address the children's immediate and basic needs. Sponsorship gives poor children the tools and opportunities necessary for success by providing benefits and supporting programs for each child - primarily in the areas of education and nutrition.
