Who wants to see my new book cover?

Hello my lovelies!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful start to 2019. I’ve been meaning to send out a newsletter for about two months to share all my latest news with you all and I’ve finally been kicked into gear now that we’ve settled on a final cover design for my third book, LOVE AND OTHER BATTLES, coming out with HarperCollins in June. I think covers are the reward authors get for writing a book, they’re the most exciting part for sure and I’m so thrilled to share my new brand cover exclusively with you guys before I share it on my social media accounts later today. I wanted you to be the first to see it!

LOVE AND OTHER BATTLES is a little darker than my previous books so we had to reflect that in the cover. It’s been a looooong process to get here, let me tell you, but to me, this result was well worth the long wait and the to-ing and fro-ing with different designs to get to this point. I’m completely in love with this cover. I hope you love it too! Please don’t share it yet, I’ll be officially revealing it on social media in a couple of hours and then you can share away after that.

With the cover release, I’m running a competition on Facebook where you can win one of 10 advance readers copies my publisher is giving away and have two copies of the autographed book sent to you (one for you, one for a friend) instead of having to wait for June when it hits the shops. Keep your eye on my Facebook page today!

So without any further ado, I give you the cover for LOVE AND OTHER BATTLES!!

Blurb:

1969: Free-spirited hippie Jess James has no intention of falling for a soldier ... but perhaps some things are not in our power to stop.

1989: Jess's daughter, Jamie, dreams of a simple life - marriage, children, stability - then she meets a struggling musician and suddenly the future becomes wilder and complex.

2017: When Jamie's daughter, CJ, brings home trouble in the form of the coolest boy at school, the worlds of these three women turn upside down ... and the past returns to haunt them.

Spanning the trauma of the Vietnam War to the bright lights of Nashville, the epidemic of teenage self-harm to the tragedy of incurable illness, Love and Other Battles is the heart-wrenching story of three generations of Australian women, who learn that true love is not always where you seek it.

If you loved The Notebook, this is the novel for you.

IN OTHER NEWS:

So I was planning to send you all out a proper newsletter in my usual rambling style of it being well over 10 pages long with all my family news too, but now my head is full of my new cover and I can’t concentrate on anything else so here are highlights from the last few months in snippet form :)

August:

Tori Spelling was snapped by the Daily Mail posing WITH MY BOOK! No shit, I think this might just be the best thing that has ever happened to me in my entire life. I’ve had a lifelong obsession with Tori Spelling! The woman is and has always been my Oprah, my queen! My friend, Jo, sent me a message with a Tori Spelling article and I was excited just to be sent an article about her. I don’t think I have ever screamed as loudly in my life as when I scrolled down and saw the photos attached to the article.

I thought for sure this meant Tori and I were about to become best friends forever – like, would she want me to be her next child’s godmother? Would our families start holidaying together in St Tropez? I suggested these things to her over Instagram direct messages. She hasn’t replied. Pretty sure her reply is coming any day now. As soon as she unblocks me ;) In the meantime, I have these photos to drool over forever!

September:

I presented a workshop on author branding at Rockingham Writers Convention. It was a great turn out and an engaged and interested group of writers who came along :)

October:

I was invited to Burdekin in North Queensland for what was the most fun writers’ festival ever. There were only twenty authors there (ten children’s books authors and ten adults’ books authors) and we had lots of bonding time. The locals were so warm and welcoming. I hung out with superstars like Michael Robotham and Caroline Overington  after a panel we did together and I made two new BFFs who I’ve stayed in close touch with since, the lovely Holly Wainwright from Mamamia and Melina Marchetta. Yes THAT Melina Marchetta is my new bestie. #donthatemecosyouaintme

November:

After 18 months in the planning, we held the West Coast Fiction Festival in Perth. 60 authors, 30 sponsors, 20 volunteers and over 250 readers came together at the Rendezvous Hotel for a most brilliant day of book signing, meet and greets and a cocktail party. The best bit was that we raised over $18,000 for Share the Dignity to put in two dignity vending machines that dispense free pads and tampons in underprivileged high schools in Perth. It was an amazing achievement!

Over three years since its release, LOVE AT FIRST FLIGHT was put on sale for one day only by my publisher and it stormed up the charts to be the number 4 best-selling title in Australia. It’s previous highest ranking was number 2 closer to its release time but to have this happen so far down the track and to see my title ahead of Jane Harper and Liane Moriarty on the charts was totally screenshot worthy!

December:

The twelve beautiful high school girls I volunteer mentored in creative writing last year launched their anthology GENERATION GIRLS. The book sold like hot cakes and the girls were proud as punch to be able to donate $1,000 from their profits to Books in Homes, a charity which provides new books for underprivileged children. I was so proud of these girls and the hurdles they overcame to publish their stories that I was just about popping on the day.

January:

I was off Facebook for two months over the school holidays and January was my time to read a truckload of books and spend most days in the pool or at the beach. It was pretty tough…

Here’s a photo of all the books I read in the school holidays that I enjoyed!

Coming up:

We are finalising my book tour dates and events at the moment but I can tell you that if you live in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Byron Bay, Bunbury, Busselton or Albany, you’ll have the chance to come along to one of my launch events and so far all of the events involve pubs or yummy afternoon tea :)

February:

If you’re in Perth, come along to Perth Writers Festival on the weekend! On Sunday, I’ll be interviewing Carly Findlay about her debut memoir, SAY HELLO, and then I’ll be hosting a panel with Jennie Jones, Sasha Wasley and Anthea Hodgson about the label of “women’s fiction” in writing. Should be fun!

March:

I’ll be doing an in-conversation event with Dervla McTiernan in celebration of her new book, THE SCHOLAR, at Woodvale Library on March 26th – do come along if you’re local!

April:

And yet another interview for me! This time I’ll be interviewing Natasha Lester about her newest release THE FRENCH PHOTOGRAPHER on April 30th at The Botanica Bar and Bistro in Innaloo. Hope to see some of you Perth people there :)

That’s it from me, guys.

Hope you liked my new cover! Don’t forget to enter my Facebook competition today to win a signed copy for you and a friend.

Lots of love,

T xx
