For all of those wondering, recovery from knee replacement surgery is going well.  I have been off my walker, and not using a cane, since this past Monday.  I have walked from the house down to the greenhouses, and washed up greens for last Saturday's market at the outside tub.  I am still avoiding stairs of any more than three treads.  There have been a few upsides to this whole ordeal.  I have seen more of my family.  All, three of my sons, and two daughters-in-law have  helped with meals, cleaning, Saturday market days, and keeping Gene and me on track.  Entertainment has been provided by Emma and Decker, 4 years and 2 years old, respectively.  Some very good friends have visited, and treated us to good food.  I have completed a whole book of New York Times Wednesday crossword puzzles, but the Thursday collection is baffling me.  I think I am just about ready take a break from them.  The house stays cleaner because I am not cooking or baking, or tracking as much dirt in from outside.  On the downside, I will never be able to get these long white compression hose on!    I have to swallow my pride and ask some one else to adorn my legs each day with them.  The forced inaction has been a real tweak to my pride (some might view that as an upside!) and usual independence.  Also, I know that the market sales have been slower, and perhaps some people feel it is not worth coming when the selection is somewhat limited.  I would encourage all of you to support each and every market farmer in any way you can.  We all work together to provider fresh, healthy food for you.  Without Miguel here at the same time I am laid up, Gene and I are getting behind on some of our scheduled tasks.  But the sky won't fall and life will continue, even if some things do not get done.  That, I think, is the real lesson I have learned from this.  I will probably forget it as soon as I am back to work fullime, but maybe it will be easier to relearn that lesson, than learn it again the hard way.
The Freight Station Farmers Market is open Tuesdays, and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
