How Black Mothers Say I Love You

Trey Anthony's hit play comes to Montreal!

Starring Andrea Davis, Jamila Shani Joseph, Dayane K. Ntibarikure and Keren Roberts, and directed by Tamara Brown, How Black Mothers Say I Love You opens on February 28, 2019 at Centaur Theatre to tell a story of the relationship between a Jamaican mother in her twilight years and her three daughters.

Starting a better life in the United States is a dream for many immigrants, but for Daphne the decision presents an unthinkable sacrifice. This is a story of separation and reconciliation infused with a bold original score that blends gospel, reggae, and R&B with classical music.

Inspired by her own Jamaican family, Trey Anthony hovers an unveiling magnifying glass over this too often unspoken experience, while tackling other themes, including the complex relationship between a mother and her queer daughter.

We look forward to having you join us throughout our run of the Montreal Premiere of How Black Mothers Say I Love You!
