AUSTRALIA  REPORT TO THE
IEA OCEAN ENERGY SYSTEMS

I am writing on behalf of the Australian delegate to the IEA Ocean Energy Systems (OES). The Executive Committee of OES (OES ExCo) meets twice a year with the next meeting to be held at the end of March. For each meeting an update on ocean energy activities is compiled in to a report and presented by the country delegate.  Our representative for this meeting is Luke Murray, Principal of Capacitus Consulting.  More about the OES and Australia's renewed membership is provided below.

To showcase Australia's growing leadership in ocean energy, we want to be as inclusive as possible of the diverse and exciting actitivities underway in support of ocean energy development in Australia. This Call for Submissions is to request your input to Australia's report.

We are seeking very brief descriptions (maximum 2-4 sentences each) of your ocean energy related activity(s) for the period November 2018 - March 2019.
  • To those who have provided information for previous OES ExCo reports, we are seeking only new and updated activities since your last report in October/November 2018.
  • To those who are new contributors, please send a very short description of your Australian ocean energy activity(s).
Please send your report submissions to: Tracey.Pitman@csiro.au  no later than 12pm next Monday, 25 February.

For supporting information, below are links to the March 2019 meeting agenda, Australia's report to the OES in November 2018 and the delegate report following the meeting. Following the meeting, Luke Murray (Australian delegate) will provide a first-hand account of the ExCo meeting via teleconference.  You will receive a invitation to this event in March.

Please contact Tracey Pitman at 03 6232 5019  or Stephanie Thornton at 0458 684 018 or email at stephanie@amet.net.au for questions.

Thank you in advance for your time and contribution to Australia's report.  Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

INTERNATIONAL ENERGY AGENCY (IEA) - OCEAN ENERGY SYSTEMS (OES)

The following provides further context and information about the IEA- OES:

In 2018  Australia renewed its membership in IEA-OES.  This great opportunity was made possible by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) through a grant from their International Engagement Program (IEP).

Active engagement with OES provides those of us involved with the Australian ocean energy sector a tremendous opportunity to engage with international colleagues on knowledge sharing and problem-solving.  Our membership also helps build a network of subject-matter-experts who we can look to for advice, guidance and potential resources to further ocean energy research and development initiatives within Australia.

Being a member of the IEA-OES comes with responsibility.  Australia must provide a country representative at the twice-yearly OES Executive Committee (ExCo) Meetings.  Currently, the primary Australian delegate is CSIRO/Mark Hemer, with with the Australian Ocean Energy Group (formerly the Australian Marine Energy Taskforce, AMET) as the alternate delegate.  The delegate represents all Australian ocean energy stakeholders.

In addition to active participation at the executive committee level, there is also opportunity to directly engage in
OES research projects As member country, ocean energy community representatives can join one or more OES project teams.  If interested, please contact either Mark Hemer or Stephanie Thornton for details.
