Solutions
Not all bugs are pests! Many insects can cause damage to plants, but there is a wide range of beneficial insects that do a great job of keeping problem pests in check without the use of pesticides. If you are looking for an organic alternative to tackling problem pests like aphids, spider mites, thrips and other nasty bugs, NHS has a large selection of beneficial insects to help protect your crop.
The most commonly used beneficial insects are ladybugs. These carnivorous bugs devour thousands of pest insects over their lifespan. They can help rid your garden of aphids, spider mites, thrips and other pests. Ladybug beetles can begin reproducing immediately with ample food and moisture. Several generations may occur during one season.
Parasitic nematodes live in the soil where they feast on harmful pests and excrete a beneficial bacterium back into the ground helping to aerate the soil and add nutrients. As the number of pests decrease, so will the nematode population and for this reason, semi-annual releases are recommended.
Stop into any NHS store and talk to our knowledgeable staff about which beneficial insects are right for your farm. You can look through our large catalog of insects to choose from and order bugs to have them shipped directly to your doorstep or farm within 24-hours.
