Dear FEP friends,

We are currently engaged in planning a Field Station at the Creekhouse that can serve as a place people can visit to learn more about our work through engaging exhibits, hands-on research and more.  As part of this planning process we wanted to share some of our current thinking about what we want in a Field Station - and get your feedback!

After much brainstorming, here are some of the qualities we have identified wanting in our Field Station:
  • Experiential: interactive; multi-sensory; immersive; curiosity-driven
  • Perspective-shifting: new ways of seeing and experiencing; windows into other worlds, human and non-human
  • Inside-Outside Flow: exhibits or experiences that integrate the inside and surrounding landscape
  • Research-Behind-the-Scenes: participatory; seeing the process; citizen science; what does it mean to be a researcher?
  • Deepening Connection and Care: between people and nature; stewardship; building relationships and love of place
We would love your help developing these ideas!  For those who were not able to make February's open house, or even if you came and have new ideas, here are two questions that we are asking people:
  1. Have you ever had a particularly meaningful, memorable or impactful experience in a museum or similar setting that touches on one or more of these qualities?  Please describe and share with us!  (They need not be thematically related to our work).
  2. Can you think of exhibits or experiences related to one or more of these qualities that you would personally like to see at the "Farmscape Field Station"?  Please describe and share with us!
We value any ideas and feedback you'd like to share.

Finally, please also let us know if you have any favorite museums or museum-like places that you think would be worth visiting as we gather ideas.  We recently did a two-day "museum tour" in NYC and hope to fit in a few more such excursions.

With warm regards,

Anna, Claudia, Conrad, Dylan and Kenny
