GROUNDWORKS WAS VOTED THE BRATTLEBORO AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE'S 2018 MEMBER OF THE YEAR
and was recognized at the Chamber's Annual Meeting on January 24th.  A hearty congratulations to Groundworks' Staff and Board!  This is a recognition of the hard work and dedication of everyone in the organization. It is also a validation of the work we’ve put into the merger and the growth of this organization to better serve the need in this community.

Pictured here from left to right are some members of Groundworks' Leadership Team:  Jon Hoover, Business Manager; Karli Schrade, Day Shelter Coordinator; Libby Bennett, Development Director; Rhianna Kendrick, Director of Operations; Josh Davis, Executive Director; and Chamber President Tracey John.

The following is an excerpt from The Commons article by Randy Holhut:

"...Executive Director Josh Davis was also surprised at the honor, since his team was at the breakfast to accept a plaque honoring 40 years of operation since Morningside Shelter opened in 1979.

“This organization would not be who we are today without our staff,” said Davis, who was joined in the spotlight by Operations Director Rhianna Kendrick, Development Director Libby Bennett, Drop-In Center Coordinator Karli Schrade, and Business Manager Jon Hoover.

Davis said that the longevity of the organization “is a testament to two things on opposite ends of the spectrum — that I am fortunate to live and work in such a generous community that has supported the work that Morningside Shelter and, now, Groundworks has done for 40 years.”

At the same time, he said, he and his staff must do that work “year in and year out, and each year the need grows, and we try to meet the need every year.”

“It is very challenging to come back year after year and ask for more and to try to do more, but that is the state of the world that we’re in right now,” Davis said...."

A HUGE THANKS to all of the many Meal Teams providing nightly meals for guests of our Seasonal Overflow Shelter!

Open since November 12th, the "SOS" is a busy place this winter.  Sheltering as many as 36 individuals a night, the SOS has been at or near our 33-bed capacity for much of the winter thus far.  We have not yet had to turn anyone away as we have been able to sleep some people on cots and couches when needed.
SAVE THE DATE!
