CAAT/EU-ToxRisk Symposium at SOT: Strategic Development of Read-Across within the EU-ToxRisk Project and Beyond
March 11, 2019
1:45-4:30pm
CC Room 316
EU-ToxRisk will attend the SOT 58th Annual Meeting and ToxExpo 2019 in Baltimore. You can find us at booth #2216 and join the scientific session “Strategic Development of Read-Across within the EU-ToxRisk Project and Beyond” (March 11, 1:45pm-4:30pm, CC Room 316,).
In this symposium, we will provide a view across the Atlantic—an in-depth overview and demonstrate opportunities of the use of read-across, starting with an EU regulatory perspective and then broadening the scope to the most up-to-date developments from the EU-ToxRisk program. A focus is set on read-across case studies, by which the use of NAMs and mechanistic data is demonstrated. While the majority of techniques used within EU-ToxRisk are already well established, the project also invested into the development of new in silico prediction models. In addition, the symposium will address automated read-across (RASAR – read-across-based structure activity relationships) and Good Read-Across Practices. We believe that lessons from the reported proof of concept read-across approaches will help to develop new mechanism-based chemical safety testing strategies.

New Frontiers in 3D Conference
April 25, 2019
Cambridge, MA
Co-Sponsored by CAAT
This conference, following the success of its 2016 Baltimore premier, is an exclusive one-day scientific meeting to discuss practical applications for emerging 3D cell technologies for human disease modeling and predictive drug safety testing.
CAAT Director Thomas Hartung will give a presentation on A World Without Animal Testing: the Future of 3D.
Call for Abstracts: Registrants are invited to submit an abstract for poster presentations. Abstracts received on or before March 25 will be considered for a podium presentation. Decisions will be communicated by email by April 15, 2019. Please note that there is no fee for abstract submissions, but you must be registered to present. All presenters are responsible for their own expenses including, but not limited to, transportation, accommodation, parking, meals (not included with conference registration), and registration fees.

2nd Open EU-ToxRisk Symposium
The 2nd Open EU-ToxRisk Symposium (12-13 Feb. 2019) and 5th EU-ToxRisk General Assembly (12-14 Feb. 2019) took place in Egmond aan Zee, The Netherlands, at the Hotel Zuiderduin. The Open EU-ToxRisk Symposium (Feb. 12-13), a public event and open to all interested industry and regulatory stakeholders, provided insight into the lessons from EU-ToxRisk read-across case studies and in the new EU-ToxRisk case studies for the second half of the project. Both events promoted the interaction between the project partners and the participants stakeholders.
The external participants also received insight in the scientific progress of development and application of new approach methods for chemical safety assessment, as well as in opportunities for joint case studies with EU-ToxRisk consortium.

Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (SAAE) Launches in India
In November 2018, India joined other innovative economies working to replace the use of animals in laboratory experiments with the launch of the Society for Alternatives to Animal Experiments (SAAE) during the country’s second national conference on alternatives in New Delhi. Humane Society International, founder of the BioMed21 Collaboration, was a lead sponsor and keynote speaker at the conference, which created a platform for national and international scientists from various backgrounds to engage in discussions pertaining to the present and future of alternatives to the use of animals in research and testing.
Research Associate Andre Kleensang represented CAAT at the conference.
