March, April and May 2019 Newsletter

Welcome Autumn - after such a busy start to 2019, I think we are all looking forward to some cooler

weather and a quieter season.  The Village is looking fantastic, thank you everyone for your

patience in the last few months with all the work that has been going on around us.  The talk around

the village has been positive, we have received lots of compliments and thanks for all the

improvements, I am sure you all agree that it has been well worth it.

Work Being Undertaken

The roads are now complete and looking amazing, but there are still other projects not yet finished, so
please
take care when you are walking near work sites around the village.

Some other work that is still underway include the painting of the pool fence and sealing of the tiles around

the pool, the colouring of the pathway in front of the reception building, completion of landscaping and a
new
pergola sitting area next to the tennis court.

Map

We now have an updated map on the reception building.  If you are after an A4 printout of this map, they are

available from our office in office hours.  It is important that you remember your street name and closest

cross street, if you ever need to ring an ambulance they will be able to find you quickly.

Fire Hoses

Just a reminder that the fire hoses around our village are not for personal use at all.

Home renos

Please remember for any external renovations or changes you may want to do to your home, you must get

written approval or a signed plan from the office before you commence work.

Visitor Parking Spaces

Visitor parking spaces around the village are not to be used by anyone but visitors.  Please park on your own driveway.

Speed Limit

We are still getting complaints of residents speeding throughout the village, please consider others and

adhere to our 10km speed limit within the village.

After Hours Contact

All after hours and weekend enquiries or emergencies please call 4358 8925.

Thanks for the thanks

We have has lots of positive feedback and we really appreciate the acknowledgement;

We have so many compliments on the work that has been done to our village entrance and the roads.  We

are also hearing from the pool users as to how they have been loving this facility.  The tennis court has also

been used a lot over the last couple of months.

We have had lots of compliments on the work ethic of our newest staff member Cheyne.

Sales News

The drop in sales in real estate on the Central Coast has effected the sales of manufactured homes as well, we have still had sales in our village but it has been a lot slower then normal.  We have had 26 inspections and do
have a few people wanting to purchase homes in our village but are waiting for the sale of their own home
outside of the village.

Our sales board located next to the reception door is a great draw card for all the people looking through our
village and visiting friends, there are also sale lists that they can take with them.

Our vendors get a phone call every two weeks letting them know of any feedback regarding their listed home,
We also let you know when we have shown your home to a potential buyer by putting a note in your letterbox,
if you are not there at the time of showing.

If you are thinking of listing your home for sale, come and see our friendly staff and get a
free home appraisal.  Our sales commission is 2.7%, incl GST, we will endeavour to beat any
commission rate offered by any real estate agent.  Just come in and talk with us before
you sign anything.

If you haven't checked her Black Rose Barber out yet, visit Georgia, and grab a price list:
Men's and Ladies cuts are $20 and Men's senior cuts for $15.

There is no need to make an appointments for cuts so drop by and say hi.

For any enquiries call Georgia on 0432665030

Library News

The collection has undergone a massive clean-up and turnover of books. There are very few of the original
tired, hard to read editions left. Thanks to the generosity of residents who have supplied us with
clean, up-to-date books, all in good condition, we have been able to remove many old, tired titles and replace
them with books in better condition, that are easier to read, and still have the main authors that the readers
request.

What happens to the books we remove?

The ones that are still fairly good, or are duplicates of titles we already have, go into the cupboard beside the
sink.

A group of ladies comes from Hometown Lakeland, a Residential Community in Buff Point, and they take
what they want for their Library from this cupboard.

Some residents take a few for their market stalls.
Anything left is advertised on Gumtree for free, and we always have a waiting list for books from this ad, which
goes in on an irregular basis.

The old, torn, smelly, small print, hard to read books are re-cycled within the
village recycling bins.
So, you see nothing is wasted, and we are always grateful for the offerings that are left
with us. We can make use of everything you wish to leave, in some way, but we do prefer not to have to
handle the old, dirty books that have been buried in a garage for 30 years or more. They are not usually
classics or treasures we can use.

Our Winter project is to re-vamp the DVD collection, so keep your eye out as we make it easier to find your
favourite actor, TV series or the type of DVD you wish to watch. The collection may be in a mess for a few
weeks, but as with the books, you know we will get there eventually. Our aim is to present you with a Library
that is easy to use and that contains the materials that you, the residents, want to see.

Please remember to replace the DVD in its box before you return it to us. We have many empty cases and the
DVDs have gone AWOL!

A reminder as to how the Library works:

If your book of choice is mystery and thriller then just look for the ORANGE dot on the spine of the book.

If your fancy is Romance, then look for a PINK dot :

For General Drama, Family  Sagas, Adventure and Historical novels, try the books with the BLUE dot:

For True stories, and Biographies, the YELLOW dot is the one to look for when selecting your book.

There is only a small selection of Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but these have a BLACK dot or a WHITE dot.

A very selective collection of non-fiction and coffee table books are house, in the Pool room and they offer a
wide range of factual material. The pamphlet boxes are being upgraded, and house small bits and pieces of
information as well as some magazines.

The English favourite “The Peoples’ Friend” has its own bookcase, with both copies of the magazine, as well as
hard cover editions, of the stories and poems that make this publication a great favourite with many readers.
You are assured of finding what you want, and please remember to browse along the Large Print shelves,
housed near the DVD collection. And of course, don’t forget the games and jigsaws.

We promise not to put you to work unless you really want to be involved and then we will train you to help us
process new arrivals and to re-shelve returned materials.

Be Connected

Older Australians with low internet skills can often feel isolated from their community and family at a time in
their lives when feeling connected is increasingly important.  Be Connected aims to change that through a
family and community centred approach. It will help older Australians to realise the value of being connected
online and provide access to appropriate training and support in a safe and familiar environment.  Be
Connected is a free Australian Government initiative aimed at increasing the confidence, skills and online
safety of older Australians when they use the internet and everyday technology.

Older Australians will be able to learn the basics of going online, including:
- being safe while online talking to or seeing family and friends who live far away,
- more often finding new friends or old friends who share similar interests and hobbies
- keeping up-to-date with what’s happening in their community and around the world
- shopping online, safely and securely, without leaving home.

There is a series of workshops to be held in the village over several Tuesday and Thursday mornings.  These
are free and include assistance with registering, as well as help to begin the programme of lessons and
exercises. It is quite interesting and can present you with a challenge as you work through the topics.
These sessions are ONLY for those interested in Be Connected: they are NOT general computer orientated
lessons. Here is an example of the content and the time it takes to do a section.
1 -  What is a computer? 4 min
2 - What is a screen?  4 min
3 - What is a keyboard? 6 min
4 - What is a mouse? 5 min

This is the first lesson. Most topics have a little quiz at the end so that you can check up on what you have
learned. So informative, but so easy that even I can do it!

If you are interested in using your laptop, smart phone or PC safely, without risk, and in enhancing your basic
computer skills, then please get in touch to find details of times and dates.

Tuesday Trivia News

2.00pm on the Last Tuesday of each month a dedicated group meet to challenge each other and dazzle the
gathering with their brilliance at TRIVIA. Considering the average age of the contestants the actual brilliance
can be debated, but the fun of the debates make it all worthwhile. You do not need to be clever and you do
not need a team. You just need to be keen to match your wits with others and to have the wish to join in with
a group that has a lot of laughs as they pull each question to pieces and try to find the answers.

The simple fact that no-one can ever answer all the questions does not deter this group from having a good
time , or from enjoying a yummy afternoon tea, while having a laugh and a good gossip.

Our new format, where 10 questions are written on a paper and the teams have 10 – 15 minutes to answer
them, has proved very successful as it means known answers are quickly disposed of, and there is time to
ponder and discuss the difficult questions. It has led to a smoother, more enjoyable game that allows all
thinkers to have their input considered as the topics are thrashed out around the tables.

Come and join us for a relaxing afternoon, no pressure, just some good fun. We will make you welcome.
Costs $2.00 for the afternoon. This is $1.00 for afternoon tea supplies and $1.00 for the Prize Kitty, which
goes to the winning team.

When you join us, try to get on the same team as Wazza or Sally, you will be sure of sharing the pot if you do!

Coffee and nibbles provided, sausage sizzle $2 and  byo refreshments.

Social Club Happenings

The silly season is over and we can all get back to our normal lives in the village. Here’s hoping 2019 is full of
good health and good fortune.

Australia Day at the BARN. Loads of you turned up and it was a great day. The food was good and plentiful, a
big thank you to Rhondda Dorahy and Robyn Mennie who did a sterling job slaving over the B.B.Q. on such a
hot day. Just a shame we couldn’t play any of the games we had planned, because of the heat.
Also, Rob Gregory for making up the C.D. with Aussie music. Thank you.
And Reg Podbury for lending us his Aussie music. “On ya mate”.

The first B.B.Q. for the year, which was held early February, had the highest numbers there since this committee
took over. Just fabulous to see so many of you attend. We sold raffle tickets only at the B.B.Q (because of the
heat before it) And the winners were 1st Rhondda of site 97, 2nd Graeme of site 189 and 3rd Faye of site 138.
Congratulation to all winners.
The next B.B.Q. will be March the 3rd with the usual tasty beef burgers and the return of the very popular
chicken burgers, and chips of course.
“MANY HANDS MAKE LIGHT WORK”
As you all will know, this committee is run by volunteers, we do this for love, for the warm fuzzy feeling it gives
us, and for the residents so we all can have a good feed, and a chin wag with our neighbours.
BUT! This can’t be done without the army of helpers. Helpers put out the marques, bring out tables and chairs. They also help with the washing up and help with the cleaning in and outside of the BARN. They also run the chocolate wheel at the B.B.Q.’s and help out in a hundred other ways.
In saying that, this is to ALL our helpers who turn up wind rain or shine.
THANK YOU  We could not do it without you.

SELLING OF RAFFLE TICKETS.
If you would like to meet new people, get some exercise and have fun, why not sell our monthly raffle tickets.
The committee does need a little help with this. Contact Helen (site 216) or Sally (site 218) and we will give
you a small area to do, that is as close to your house as possible.
Thank you.

UPCOMING EVENTS.
General Meeting (Paid up members only) - Mid March. (To be advised)
B. B.Q.’s - First Sunday of each month.

Aqua Aerobics

What great weather we have had, my ladies and gents are doing great, we have lots of new faces and all are
enjoying their work outs.

The pool area is looking terrific, the pool is the cleanest I have ever seen it.  It just sparkles and there is not a
leaf to be seen, we love the new paving, fence, cover, steps and a new mic.  I don't have to yell anymore.  Thank you
management.   Aerobics will continue as long as the weather is good and the pool is heated.  Thank you to
everyone, its been a great year so far.

Yours in health
