Welcome to the March e-news update
We have some key points of note around functional skills for you in this edition.
Do take a look at the update from Ofqual that outlines how functional skills qualifications are being reformed, what's changing and why and the progress so far. You may also wish to check out the information on changes to the condition of funding for maths and English.
If you're new to teaching functional skills and/or you don't have a subject specialist qualification, you may be interested in the new Level 5 CPD modules that have been designed to help you develop your practice and give you the confidence to teach learners with skills below Level 2. At the time of writing there are still some free places available (eligibility criteria apply). See below for full details.

Functional Skills Qualifications

Changes to condition of funding for maths and English
From academic year 2019 to 2020, full time students with a grade 2 or below in maths or English can choose to study towards functional skills level 2 or a GCSE grade 9 to 4. This also applies to part time students who have a grade 3 or grade D GCSE. More
