This was an amazing month! The Royal Commission Final Report was released with intense media coverage dissecting every recommendation.  The banks finally received the roasting they deserved.  It was a privilege to be so intensely involved in such a historic time in our sector.  Gemma flew to Canberra last week, as one of the select few people to get an early look at Hayne's recommendations in the Parliamentary lockup. This was a testament to all the hard work the team at CCLSWA has put in over the last year to ensure that WA's voice is heard.
Gemma was able to quickly draft our response to the report.   We also want to share with you the perspective of those most closely involved in WAWACOSS, FCAWA, and FCN.
The heads of several big institutions have already resigned and we are sure the repercussions of the report will continue to be felt in the coming months.
Lasting change takes time and cannot be rushed and so the focus of the report on continuing to use the regulators to hold the banks to account is welcomed by CCLSWA.

At CCLSWA we highly value the contributions of our stakeholders. We are having an event on the 15th of March to launch our CCLSWA Supporters Program on World Consumer Rights Day.  The Hon. John Quigley MLA, Attorney General, Minister for Commerce will deliver the keynote address.  Look out for your invitations coming soon!   Or register your interest by emailing us: admin@cclswa.org.au

The consumer movement marks 15th March with World Consumer Rights Day every year, as a means of raising global awareness about consumer rights and needs. Celebrating the day is a chance to demand that the rights of all consumers are respected and protected, and to protest against market abuses and social injustices which undermine those rights.

World Consumer Rights Day was inspired by President John F Kennedy, who sent a special message to the US Congress on 15th March 1962, in which he formally addressed the issue of consumer rights. He was the first world leader to do so. The consumer movement first marked that date in 1983 and now uses the day every year to mobilise action on important issues and campaigns.  This year's theme is trusted smart products
