Imagine if someone picked you up and plopped you in the middle of a maze with a blindfold and no map! Confusion and frustration would overwhelm you. Your feet would stumble, and you would bumble around corners. You would feel an extreme level of despondency as you have no way to gauge the progress of your task. You would be tempted to panic. You might cry. You might sit helplessly and do nothing!

Many people view life as this type of proverbial dark maze. They live like they are independently navigating a series of tasks with no clue of where they are going and no concept of what is in front of them. These individuals end up inventing stories to justify their existence, constructing their own values, or setting their own standards of success.

Fortunately, our creator did not intend for us to go through life disoriented, and the Christian life is much more like a path than a maze. We know the guidelines of life by reading the scripture; we understand how to function in our jobs and social lives by following scripture’s ethics; and we set our goals of success by measuring our spiritual growth with the teachings of Jesus. We don’t live by fumbling around ignorantly. Instead, we allow scripture to be “a lamp to our feet and a light to our path,” we have a joy that provides strength in the most stressful circumstances, and we have a gospel message of hope that we might even sacrifice our lives to share!

In the church’s run-up to the Easter season, we are going back to the basics and examining the purpose of our church: to help people believe, belong, and become. We want everyone to understand that this is a place where they can learn the truth (believe). We want the activities that we do here to be done in the context of a loving community (belong). We also hope that as you understand more truth and become increasingly influenced by believers, that you grow in holiness and draw nearer to God (become). If you feel like you are stumbling through life or even if you just need a hand as you trod life’s path, we welcome you to make NTCC, the church on Hilton Road, your place of support and refuge!

Writing to missionaries and sending them mail is a great way to encourage those serving away from home! However, some missionaries serve in countries where Christians are persecuted or sharing the gospel is illegal and punishable. Governments in many of these places monitor letters, packages, emails, social media, websites, and blogs; one word could jeopardize your missionary’s safety and the ministry.

Security is a concern! But don't let that dissuade you from writing to missionaries—their work is challenging, and often times quite lonely.  God can use your words to bring encouragement and brighten their day! Follow these guidelines to help keep your missionary and the people they work with safe. These guidelines should be followed for phone calls, letters, emails, blogs, packages, and comments on social media.

  • Check with your missionary on how to best communicate with him or her. Ask if he or she has any specific guidelines for the country where they serve.

  • Don’t criticize the government of the host country or its policies - including local campus authority.

  • Don’t mention missions, evangelism, missionary, ministry, witnessing, giving out Bibles, outreach, gospel, Jesus, support raising, the host country’s religion, or the name of a church in the country where they serve, etc.

  • Don’t send missionary prayer letters, tracts, church bulletins, Bibles, or any other ministry-related material.

  • Limit your use of Christian language. It’s OK to talk about your own spiritual life and quote Scripture, but in moderation.

  • Don’t mention the names of other missionaries in the host country or identify people who might be interested in Christianity.

  • Don’t mail letters or packages with church stationary or labels.

  • Don’t post emails, letters, or comments from your missionary online, and don’t forward them without their permission.

  • Don't send out bulk emails to missionaries in Asia or the Middle East.

  • Ask for your missionary’s permission before sharing his or her mailing or email addresses with anyone. Make sure anyone who receives your missionary’s contact information understands these communication guidelines too.

  • Please DO write a missionary! Mail is a cherished and important encouragement! First class mail, in most cases, can take several weeks to reach its destination, so be sure to send mail early!

More than a year ago, my family and I began to pray about our future.  Would we continue to serve a young, small, great, hip group of believers or begin to look in an area where we could live closer to family and serve in a church that could use us?  We know the answer to that question now, but we didn’t then.  That is why we prayed.  We prayed to hear God move. To open doors and to close them.  To show us new possibilities and to seize opportunities.
As I write this today, I am sitting with my mom in Omaha NE as she is recovering from a major foot surgery.   [She has 11 screws in her foot now.  Can’t take her through any metal detectors. :) ]  I know she prayed about this surgery.  We both have prayed for the doctors, nurses and others who would help her recover.  I believe prayer grows with you as you mature in Christ.  I certainly don’t believe I prayed this much or hard about things from my first years of being a believer in Christ.  I would like to share a few thoughts on praying:

1.  Begin: This seems silly.  Often times we don’t pray because we never begin.  Begin by saying words.  Then add to that.  You’ll get the hang of it.

2. Have you ever been driving, making dinner, reading a book and all of a sudden you are reminded of God.  When that happens, pray.  Pray about what is bringing you to that moment.

3.  When someone tells you something big, and you feel the urge to pray for them, do it, out loud, with them.  It will bring you to a new place with God and your friend.

4.  Goes along with #3, when you tell someone you will pray for them.  Really pray for them.

5. Journal or write out prayer requests and track them.  It will help you with seeing where God is answering prayers in affirmation and with the big “NO” which does and should happen.

6. Pray for your church, church leaders, church pastors, community and name people by name.  It will help you connect with them spiritually.

Finally, please don’t forget to join us each week for our prayer and worship meeting on Sunday nights from 6pm to 7pm.

            Find and follow Jesus forever

It's March Madness for HiSKidZ at NTCC--In March HiSKidZ have 4 great opportunities to connect with God at church and invite their friends to join them! It is our prayer that you will make every effort to  invite others and be a part of what God is doing in the lives of HiSKidZ! Here's what's happening in March for HiSKidZ!

This is one of HiSKidZ favorite fun days! On March 10, have your kids come to church in  their PJ's on time change Sunday. We will have Pop Tarts, juice, milk and more as we learn about God's great love for us!

Then on March 17, St Patrick's Day, HiSKidZ are encouraged to get their green on. Go all out or wear just a little--but together we will be growing in Christ on this super fun Sunday!

Next on March 24 it's XP time! HiSKidZ will be making some noise--literally. Join us as we raise some praise together with homemade drums, bubble wrap, bells and more. (Earplugs will be provided for HiSKidZ and our helpers.) Our preschool HiSKidZ will have quieter noise makers for their big day!

Finally, we will end the month with Family Sunday, Baby Dedication and Linger Longer Lunch. HiSKidZ will share in the 10:30 service that day as they sit with their families and join together with all the generations.

Remember:

Our next Baby Dedication will be held Sunday, March 31 during the 10:30 service. If you have a child under the age of 2 and would like to be a part of this special time, please make a note on your connection card by March 17 and turn it in to the basket the entrance doors or see Ms Dawn.

HiSKidZ will continue their "Disciples" series in March. During this series we have been learning what it means to be a follower of Jesus. We have learned to live humbly, walk in faith, share Jesus boldly and more. If you know a child in grades K-5th, we hope you will invite them to join us at KidZRocK, Wednesday nights from 6-7:15pm.

Lil HiSKidZ (3yr-preK) will be learning in March about our Creator God who made all the plants in the world. God is not just Creator, but He is our Provider. This month our preschoolers will see that we can trust Him no matter what!

Current Opportunities include:
KidZChurch Volunteers--Come be part of what God is doing in the lives of HiSKidZ.
Training provided.

Nursery Cleaning Team Volunteers--Volunteers are needed to come to the church one afternoon a week to clean the baby and toddler nurseries and toys.

HiSKidZ classes on Sunday morning meet at 9am (lessons with Bible skills games) and 10:30 KidZChurch (with songs, lesson, communion time and lesson review games).

Dear NTCC,
I want to take time to let everyone know about the KCA Auction that is coming up on Saturday, April 6 at 10:00. This is a great time to come out and support Christian education in Keokuk. Our event will have a sports theme this year. Come be a part of our team!

I also need to encourage all families to enroll for the 2019-20 school year. The earlier you enroll, the easier it is for you to get scholarships. It also helps us plan the best possible education for your child!

Ray Miller

As I looked out the window at the big snow flakes floating down from the sky and causing a pure white blanket on the ground, I was reminded once again of God’s perfect plan. How God knew that the plants and vegetation needed that layer of insulation to survive the harsh elements. God also knew the world had to tilt and rotate to keep it in harmony, and the earth had to be at the right distance from the Sun to keep everything livable.... Wow, what a master plan! This is just a very small part of things that have to tie in together to keep everything running smoothly. Deuteronomy 32:4; says "He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He". Yes, His ways are perfect. He didn't make the snow to be a drawback, and cause us distress, we only see the small picture, there is no way we could comprehend the big one, all we can do is trust the Lord with all our heart and mind. Too many times people try to change God, when they should just be following Him.

I was traveling in North West Iowa years ago when I popped over a hill overlooking the valley of the Little Sioux River and what I saw made me go WOW! The view was incredible, and it made me think how amazing this rock we call Earth must have looked the way God created it, you know before man put his hand prints all over it. There are still places that are undisturbed by man like the Grand Canyon and the mountain peaks of the Rockies‘. I got to tell you every time I see them whether on foot or from the air I just have to look up toward the sky and smile because it gives me a "Yea God" moment.

You know, there is even a list of the 7 Natural Wonders Of The World. Now to be honest with you, I don't think God makes wonders. God made the world and everything in it and on it perfect. After he molded Earth, he place it at a perfect distance from the Sun so man could tolerate the cold as well as the heat. He made the right amount of air compounds so man could breath. He got the Earth spinning around the Sun just right, and then the moon around the Earth. Everything is in perfect harmony. No it is not a wonder, it is just God being God. Just think of other things on the earth or even the human body. So many things have to move in perfect harmony to make it work. Only the hands of God could do that....Only the hands of God!

We took a trip to Chicago awhile back and the skyscrapers that are made by man in the downtown area is a powerful site, but the biggest wow factor was Lake Michigan which was made by God. Looking at them both together it occurred to me why the skyline looked so incredible, it is because it compliments the lake. That also says a lot about how we should live our lives. If we want for people to take notice of us in a good way, we need to live our lives to compliment God, not the other way around. God created you, Jesus saved you, and I love you!
