The Georgia General Assembly is on Day 14 of the Legislative Session. As of this week, we are closely following two bills that have big implications for our Asian American and immigrant communities. Learn more about how to take action on these bills.

Be sure to join us for our Asian American Advocacy Day on March 13th and weekly Immigrant Rights Thursdays, and keep an eye out for future ways to get involved with our work!  See more information below on each of these opportunities.
Bills We're Watching This Week

The Democracy Act (SR 52)

The ACLU of Georgia, Advancing Justice - Atlanta, and other Voting Rights organizations have worked to introduce a bill to end partisan gerrymandering. The bill aims to create standards for redistricting, improve transparency in the process, and institute an independent redistricting commission. Join us on Tuesday, Feb 19 for our Democracy Act Press Conference & Advocacy Day. Learn more and sign up here.

Registry of Non-citizen Felons (HB 202)

This bill was introduced by Rep Jesse Petrea, who has previously introduced legislation aimed at singling out non-citizens. HB 202 would mandate the creation of a statewide database run by the Department of Corrections containing information about a prisoner's immigration status, offenses, and home country. This bill can endanger immigrant communities and put our families at further risk for discrimination and attack. Call your representative today and encourage them to oppose HB 202.
