Spring Special

March – May 2019 only, Joy of Living is offering both:

  • The study of Exodus Part 1 for only $12, regularly $18.50  (Large print only $16.25)
  • The study of Exodus Part 2 for only $10, regularly $15.30  (Large print only $13.50)

Exodus tells how God redeemed the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt, and how He guided them to the Promised Land. In this book we will meet Moses, Miriam, Aaron, and Joshua.

Within the book of Exodus, God’s purpose in history is revealed through this account of redemption, covenant, and the building of the tabernacle. All of these picture God’s plan, which was eventually fulfilled through Jesus Christ. Selections from the books of Numbers, Deuteronomy, and Joshua are included in Part 2, showing how Israel finally settled in the land of promise under Joshua’s leadership.

Excerpt from the Study of Exodus

The Redemption Book

Exodus, the redemption book, traces the life of Moses—the Israelites’ redeemer.  In Exodus we see how Moses’ experiences—the burning bush, the Passover lamb, the Red Sea crossing, the striking of the rock, the tabernacle—symbolize the glories of Christ, the Redeemer of all mankind.  What a feast is before us! May the Holy Spirit Himself nourish us as we feed on His Word, that we may exclaim with Job, “I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread” (Job 23:12).

The “law of God” recorded in Exodus is still God’s unchanging moral standard for man’s behavior today—it has never been repealed. When a nation foolishly disregards God’s law and standard there is trouble, as we read in 2 Chronicles 36:16: “But they mocked God’s messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the LORD was aroused against his people and there was no remedy.” Today we see evidences all about us of the results of disobedience and utter disregard for the principles God has given in His Word.

When people choose to obey God’s laws, their testimony is expressed in the words of the psalmist: “The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the LORD are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes” (Psalm 19:7-8).

Just as God required of Israel, we also must obey the moral laws God gave us, but we do not have to do it alone. Elizabeth Elliot once said, “Throughout the Bible…when God asks a man to do something, methods, means, materials and specifics were always provided. The man had one thing to do: obey.” This is true for any Christian in every age! When God calls us to be His people, He provides all that we need by the power of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 5:32; 1 Corinthians 2:4).

New Study - Pre-order Now

Joy of Living is pleased to announce that an all-new study, Christ B.C., should be available by May.  You may pre-order your copy now.

Pre-order Now - Christ B.C.

This new, 14-lesson study looks at the hidden Christ of the Old Testament.

Christ B.C. is not a comprehensive theological treatise exploring every pre-incarnate reference or allusion to Christ. Instead, each lesson looks at some aspect of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament, examines how it relates to Him in the New Testament, and explores how it applies to us today. It is an exploration that will make Him more personal in your day-to-day living, and lead you deeper into His great love for you.

The commentary was written by Bill Meyers, a best-selling author and award-winning filmmaker, who uses his talents to further the gospel around the world.  The study questions were written by Nancy Collins, who is a familiar author to those who have done other Joy of Living Bible Study courses.  If you would like to read more about these authors, visit our website at: www.joyofliving.org/authors

Joy of Living Profile:  April-Lyn Caouette

April-Lyn Caouette is the newest addition to the Joy of Living team. April-Lyn joined the staff in November 2018 as our Administrative Assistant and Media Consultant, working with the team to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly, and maintaining the Joy of Living social media accounts. She is also developing and managing the new Joy of Living blog.

She became a Christian as an adult through a weekly board game night at a friend’s home. That friend also ran a weekly Bible study group at his local church, and when April-Lyn needed a spiritual community to help her recover from a bout of depression, she asked her friend if she could attend his Bible study.

Studying the Bible led her to start asking questions about God and Christ, and about a year and a half later in August of 2012 she was baptized and formally declared her decision to follow Jesus.

Outside of her work at Joy of Living, April-Lyn is a co-founder of Love Thy Nerd (LTN), a non-profit ministry organization that exists to be the love of Jesus to “nerds” and nerd culture. She and her team visit video game, board game, and comic book conventions around the country to serve and love attendees, and train missionaries how to be on mission when they return to their local communities. LTN also maintains a website that publishes reviews, commentary, and interviews on subjects such as video games, comics, board games, television, movies, and anime, and provides resources for people within the church who want to reach out to this subculture more effectively. You can visit LTN’s webpage at https://www.lovethynerd.com/.

April-Lyn is regularly amazed by how faithful and loving God is, and how even when she doesn’t understand His will, God has perfect plans already in motion. She’s excited to be a part of the Joy of Living team and to see what the future has in store for their work together.

Price Increase

In order to keep pace with ever-increasing overhead, it is necessary to raise our prices by approximately 3% on our study materials, effective March 2019.
The weekly cost of doing a Joy of Living course is only $1.35 on average, which is still less than a cup of coffee or a large fountain drink!

Many of our longer studies have been split which allows each half to have a more moderate price.

We, also, continue to offer the Extended Payment option (no interest charge) on courses over 7-weeks long.  If you would like to take advantage of the Extended Payment option, please mention it when you are placing your order by phone or email.

Visit our website www.joyofliving.org or see our current order form for new prices.

Cut Your Cost

Are you on a tight or limited budget?  You may be able to cut your costs by saving on your shipping charges.  Actual shipping charges vary by weight, type of package, carrier, distance, and speed of delivery.

When ordering online, or from third-party vendors, you may be billed a flat fee or a percentage of your order rather than the actual shipping charge.
If you will take the time to call the Joy of Living office, we will help you receive your order at the least expensive rate and in time for your class.

Remember to call ahead of time.  The faster you want your order to arrive, the more expensive it will be.

USPS & UPS Rate Increase

You may notice a slight increase in shipping charges on your invoices.  Both UPS (United Parcel Service) and USPS (United States Postal Service) have increased their rates.
