Returning Past Festival Guests!
Past Festival Guests Mark Leslie LeFevbre, Robert J. Sawyer, and Brian Hades have confirmed they will be attending the festival in 2019.
Book Your Hotel Room
The Delta Calgary South is able to accept online room bookings. Hint: Book early; the past 4 years the hotel has sold out well in advance of the booking deadline. Also, this year WestJet has a festival discount for travel to Calgary.

Leaving the Page: Character Banquet
Dress as a character from your favourite book. Heroes, villains, or even aliens from any era are welcome. Join us for an evening of networking with other readers and writers.
Theme dress is welcome, but not required. Banquet tickets may be purchased at time of registration or separately using the same form.

2019 Program
Topic ideas for our 2019 schedule have been pouring in. In April we will be scheduling topics and presenters. If you would like to see a topic addressed, let us know. Topics will be posted online later this month.

Master Classes
Once again we will have a full slate of Master Classes by our festival guests. Classes for 2019 will be offered prior to and following the festival. Details TBA.
2019 Short Story Contest
You are invited to submit your original, unpublished written works of fiction to the 2019 Robyn Herrington Memorial Short Story Contest, "In Places Between". There is no entry fee, but entrants must be members of the When Words Collide Festival.
Contest Rules and Requirements
- Deadline for submissions is midnight on May 1, 2019
- All authors must be members of the When Words Collide Festival
- There is no contest entry fee
- Short stories of up to 4,000 words maximum
- Two submissions per entrant maximum
- Please email all submissions to ipb.contest@gmail.com.
Stories are judged on a combination of factors, including professional presentation, originality, ingenuity, entertainment factor, character, plot, spelling, grammar, and other authorial skills.
Prizes ($CDN)
$25.00 – Honorable mentions (7)
$75.00 – Third place
$100.00 – Second place
$125.00 – First Place
The top ten stories will be printed in the annual In Places Between book. A copy of this publication will be provided to each of the top ten authors.
