The board of directors and staff of the Oakland Asian Cultural Center join the Bay Area community in mourning the sudden loss of San Francisco Public Defender Jeff Adachi. Our hearts ache for his family, colleagues, and friends. Jeff was self-less, driven, kind, and generous. His death is a profound loss for humanity.
Jeff was not only a bold and visionary fighter for civil liberties, racial justice, and immigration rights; he was a musician and filmmaker as well and used these talents to advance his mission to right big wrongs. This past year, OACC had the privilege of hosting Jeff for the screening of his documentaries, America Needs a Racial Facial and Defender.
The internment of Jeff's family during WWII informed his passion for justice. As we commemorate Day of Remembrance, we hope to honor Jeff's legacy and inspire action throughout the year in the pursuit of justice. There will be a vigil and march on Wednesday, February 27, starting at the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office at 7pm.
