HES Graduate School Series: Grad School General Overview
02/20/19 Wed. in 240 Bechtel from 6-8pm
CalNERDS will be giving a presentation about a general overview of graduate school, tips on how to get research opportunities, fellowships, and more!
The amazing CalNERDS staff is going to provide graduate school toolboxes to ALL attendees. This portable filing box is filled with office supplies and filing organizer folders. It is designed to help you have one centralized space for materials related to graduate school.
Each box costs about $40 to order and build. They have up to 50 FREE boxes to give to anyone who attends the General Graduate School Overview Workshop. CalNERDS is asking that y’all please RSVP using the link to gather the names of those attending the workshop so they can customize the graduate school toolboxes with student names.

SHPE Hike in Presidio
Saturday, March 16th 10am - 2pm
The hike this month will be in Presidio and will be from the Ecology Trail to Inspiration Point.
It's a 2.5 mile hike and is rated as easy and suitable for hikers of all abilities and ages with scenic views rated 10/10!

Cyberinfrastructure Research 4 Social Change
June 1 - August 3, 2019 @ UT Austin, Texas Advanced Computing Center
The enriching and transformative experience at a world-class supercomputing center includes:
- Training in High Performance Computing, visualization, and data intensive computing
- Multidisciplinary research projects across engineering, science, and computational medicine
- Mentoring by researchers at UT, Austin
Participants receive a $4,500 stipend along with housing, a meal card, and paid travel.

Career Center Workshops
These hands-on programs begin with a brief talk by a career counselor about that day's topic, followed by "lab time" for you to work on your own. A counselor will be available to give 1-on-1 feedback and advice. This is a great way to carve out time to work on your job search with the convenience of a career professional nearby, should you need assistance.
*Please note that, although the content is tailored toward H and SS majors, all majors are welcome!

Through the REACH program, under-represented engineering achievers get firsthand exposure to research opportunities, world-class faculty, academic programs, student services and mentoring resources.

Sophomore Edge is a program that seeks to provide training experiences for historically underrepresented segments in the field of financial services, including Black, Hispanic, and Native American students.

HackSC
HackSC, the official Hackathon of the University of Southern California taking place in April 2019.
At this year's event, we are looking to revitalize the traditional Hackathon nature by not only providing the latest technologies for hackers to use but also by sparking an entrepreneurial spirit within our attendees. Our three verticals are Entrepreneurship, Entertainment, and Transportation. Los Angeles has a rapidly growing tech scene and our goal is, through HackSC, to accelerate its growth through innovation and creativity.

Google Summit
Google will gather 50 engineering and computer science students for our third annual Hispanic Student Leadership Summit (HSLS) in partnership with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.Google’s HSLS was created as an effort to bring Latinx leaders together to share innovative and creative best practices with one another, as well as collaborate with Google’s Latinx leadership to benefit your university, organization, and community.
When: Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th (Travel days: Thursday, April 4th and Sunday, April 7th)
Where: Google Office in Austin, Texas
What: The agenda includes breakout discussions, networking with the Hispanic Google Network, student group presentations, and a unique celebration for Summit attendees!

The BEL program is a highly selective one-week paid internship focused on giving top students of Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino and American Indian descent the opportunity to strengthen their business and leadership skill set while gaining exposure to Bain & Company, one of the world’s top tier strategy consulting firms.
