What's on at BCCCC
Beechworth Community Childcare Centre

We would like to welcome everyone to Beechworth Community Child Care Centre for 2019
We try to put out a Newsletter every month to keep you informed of upcoming events, fundraising and news from the children's rooms. We will send the newsletters to your email address or give you a hard copy.
It has been a busy start to the year. We have a number of new families and I hope your children are settling in and you are getting to know us.
If at any time you have questions please ask and hopefully we can help you or point you in the right direction

WORKING BEES/
MAINTENANCE:

We have working bees throughout the year to remove leaves and twigs from the roof, general grounds clean up and any other maintenance that needs to be done.
Being a Community based Centre; we rely on all families to help out where possible to assist us keep the surrounds tidy and clear of hazards. We often have equipment or things that need mending or fixing. If you are able to help us let Cathy or Mandy know
OUR FIRST WORKING BEE WILL BE SATURDAY 16th FEBRUARY 9AM.
We will need spades maybe some wheelbarrows

We will be fixing tripping hazards around the paths and filling the sand pit.

ASSESSMENT AND RATING (Accreditation)
The Department of Education and Training (the Department) visited our centre to assess and rate the service last Tuesday 5th February. The purpose of the assessment and rating is to determine whether, and at what rating level, a service meets the National Quality Standard (NQS)(2018), and the National Law and National Regulations.
It was a busy day especially with all the rain, thunder and lightning and the phones and internet going out
SOOOO we wait to see what are rating is. It can take at least 6 weeks.
WET BAGS:
In keeping with our Sustainability programme, our goal is to reduce the amount of plastic bags we use within the centre. We are encouraging every child to have their own WET BAG to hold wet clothes etc. We have wet bags for use within the centre for you to purchase for a cost of $6.50 which will be added to your fees invoice.
They are available from the office.

HATS DRINK BOTTLES/SUNSMART:
With summer here all children and staff will require a named hat that complies with the SunSmart policy, of a broad brim hat, bucket hat or a legionnaire’s hat.
Children also need to wear tops with sleeves to cover their shoulders.
Sunscreen alone will not prevent sunburn. Children need a hat, appropriate clothing, sunscreen and playing in the shade.
We put sunscreen on 20 minutes before the children go outside.
If your child has an allergy, please supply their own sunscreen.
Also each child needs a named drink bottle or sipper cup so they can have access to water at all times of the day.
Only water is to be put in the bottles due to our Nutrition Policy
ILLNESS:
It is very important that we protect the health and well-being of all children and educators who attend this Centre. To do this we need to ensure that sick children and educators remain away from the Centre during a period of illness.
Your child is not to attend child care within 24 hours of vomiting, having diarrhoea, starting anti-biotic, and/or having a fever.
A child with excessive and persistent coughing, weeping eyes (conjunctivitis) will remain at home.
Certain illnesses have exclusion times which are listed on the fact sheets.
Illness notices are displayed on the front door, so if your child becomes sick please let us know so we can inform other parents.

CODE RED DAYS
With the bush fire season still in progress we may have a CODE RED DAY. Children’s services – and schools – identified as being at highest fire risk will be closed on days declared by fire authorities to be Code Red. Our facility has been identified as being one of those at highest bushfire risk.
The centre will be directed by the Department of Education and Training to close. No children or educators are permitted at the centre. We have updated our Emergency Management plan.
If you would like to read it please see a copy is kept on the foyer noticeboard.

ATTENDANCES:
Please call us if your child will be away, as we often have children on the waiting list for odd days.
If we have positions, you can swap your day for appointments/leave within the fortnight. You cannot swap for illness.

ALSO all families will be eligible for 2 weeks holidays (when the child is not attending the centre) at half the usual fee. 4 weeks’ notice is required in writing (including email) for this to apply.
Full fees are still payable for any absences including holidays

FUNDRAISING
Our first fundraiser for the year will be a BUNNINGS Sausage sizzle at the Wangaratta store in MARCH. We could easily raise between $700 to $1000.
We will be looking for volunteers to help man the BBQ and stall between 8-4. So start thinking if you can donate an hour or two to the BBQ so the centre raise much needed funds for new equipment and refurbishing the outdoor play space.
Keep a look out for notices and the BBQ Roster.

The Committee of Management are also thinking of running another BUSH DANCE.
