ITC Member Update: Change in Committee Positions

Member Update: Change in Committee Positions

At last night’s meeting the committee officially accepted the resignations of both Paul Knight as President and Simone Campbell as Junior Coach.
I would like to thank them both for the efforts they have put in throughout their time on the committee to make Illawarra Triathlon Club a success.
Paul Knight – In the 18 months of being President, Paul always looked at the big picture. His key achievements during this period included implementing a closer relationship between ITC and the NSW Junior Development program, successfully obtaining a $5,000 grant for both uniform (more on this in the coming weeks) and upgrades to our timing system. He also helped get our Free Community Day race off the ground which has attracted roughly 400 competitors over 2 seasons.

Simone Campbell – Along with Steve Van Gils, Simone started our Junior program. The Junior program started as a Sunday afternoon race and is now an integral part of the club. It is not only about success, but it must be said that because of this Junior program we now have a number of Junior members in both the IAS Triathlon program and NSW Development squad. Simone also started our Junior Ambassador program, which is a program that builds coaching and mentoring skills for our older kids.

Following the acceptance of these resignations, Jye Cajar was appointed as President of the club, Carolyn Dews was appointed as Sponsorship Officer and Nathan Miller who is Club Coach will oversee the Junior Coaching and Development for the remainder of the season. Congratulations to all on your appointment.

What to expect for the rest of the season:

As a committee we will be undertaking projects in member engagement and compliance to help set the club up for a strong 2019-20 season. Amongst other projects this will include:

  • the ordering of uniforms, both T-Shirts and Triathlon Suits with the Triathlon Suits heavily subsidised to make them more affordable for our members.
  • Member get togethers at key races as well as ITC races.
  • Reviewing our Constitution to ensure compliance.
  • Updating our website to be more user friendly.

Positions Vacant:

We have 2 key positions vacant:

1.       Timing Officers – We require a small group of volunteers to learn our timing system. The key responsibilities will be to allocate the timing chip numbers to participants on race eve as well as ensure the battery is charged and ready to go for our races. This won't affect your ability to race on the day.
2.       Junior Coach – While Nathan will oversee our Junior Coaching for the remainder of the season, more permanently we are after a Junior Triathlon or qualified coach to run individual discipline sessions (i.e., a run coach or swim coach etc.).

If you are interested in either of these, or want to be more involved in running the club (no matter how big or small) please contact Jye Cajar at jye.cajar@itc.org.au or 0436 300 626.

Next Committee Meeting - 6th of March
Our next committee next will be held on Wednesday the 6th of March at 7pm (and will run the first Wednesday of the month thereafter). For the warmer months, the meeting follows the club-organised harbour swim session. The venue will be Wollongong Surf Club.

I am always open for member suggestions on improvements to the club and welcome your feedback and input into the running of the club.

Thanks for your support of the club and I look forward to seeing you all out racing at Sunday's club race.
