Do you have a guitar or banjo or ukulele or another stringed instrument?
Are you interested in becoming more proficient?  If so, we need your talents!  We are putting together a music group with FREE lessons, taught by John Waltz.

Our goal is to “grow our own” group to add joyful worship to our services and to help the congregation learn to sing with us, particularly at the earlier service.  We’ll be learning worship songs from a variety of sources.

Lessons will be every 2-3 weeks, with practices in between as schedules allow. Time & place to be determined, depending on the interest and where people live.

For more information, and to sign up please contact Kate Aldrich at kaldrich@sonic.net or call 539-9603.

I will incline my ear to a proverb; and set forth my riddle upon the harp.
Psalm 49:3, BCP

Scores of happy St Patrick parishioners celebrated the blessings to our community on a rainy February 1st evening.  As folks entered Stevenson Hall they were greeted with a glass of Champagne and a hall decorated with red checked cloths on festive Italian-themed candle lit tables, with center pieces sporting Italian flags and greenery. Fairy lights added to the festive atmosphere as the 74 guests were serenaded by guitar playing vocalists Marshall Ward and Bruce Ahlvin.

Local wines and assorted beverages were served and a sumptuous buffet, prepared by The Pasta King, delighted the hungry partiers.  The Best Ever Brownie Bar, created by our amazing St Patrick’s Bakers capped off the feast.

The after-dinner program featured Priest Doyle welcoming everyone and expressing her  gratitude for the people of St. Patrick's which was echoed by Bob Wohlsen, the new Sr. Warden. The heart of the program was when Russ Engle, former Sr. Warden and Master of  Ceremonies, called upon each of the 34 ministries, committees and individuals, to have the chairperson acknowledged, and all the members of each group to raise their hands.

In addition, Russ acknowledged parishioners who had at any time served the church, and also asked all those new to the parish to please stand. How heartening it was to see so many new members to our parish!
It was astonishing to see, in one place, the sheer number of groups that help to make St. Patrick's the wonderful place that it is.

Priest Doyle acknowledged the Co-Chairs of the event, Ann Peters and Stephanie Chapralis McCaffrey, and the hosts of the evening, the Stewardship Committee including; Bob Wohlsen, Chair, Kate Aldrich, Rick Belding, Stephanie Chapralis McCaffrey, Russ Engle, and Hutch Gibb.

Priest Doyle also thanked the event committee members Barbara Klingbeil and Mary Fields for the stunning center pieces; Kathy Scherer and Elisabeth Romayko who coordinated the delectable Brownie Bar along with the many talented brownie bakers; Eleanor Albion and her kitchen crew, Alicia Wray, Wendy Wood Minerva Haddad, Jane Hall, Dorothy Mills, Sarah Phillips not to mention the contributions of Miriam Casey, Dennis McCaffrey, and Bobbiejo Maggard. There were many others who stepped in to assist and a heartfelt thanks is extended to them.

'The Way to Santiago de Compostelle'

Thank you for joining Russ Engle as he shared his and his wife's experience on the Spanish Camino where they walked with a group led by the University of Bethlehem (The Holy Land).
Some of you may remember when Father Hugh played the movie 'The Way' for St. Pat's and shared some of his experiences on this walk.
In all Russ and his wife, Claudette, walked 125 Kilometers and, truly, it is far, far more than 'just a walk in the park'!!

Many of you have met me, Ana Lucía and our baby Luciana, we met Richard and Betsy on the Rotary missions to Nicaragua. Ana Lucía and I were the two dentists on the missions.
We left Nicaragua fearing for our lives because the government Sandinista in Nicaragua is corrupt and is persecuting people who protest in opposition to them. We came to Santa Rosa where we knew lots of Rotarians. We arrived here on a tourist visa on July 13 and have been staying with the Randolph, to whom we thank very much for receiving us.
On January 24, after months of legal preparations, we were granted asylum! We have been coming to St. Patrick’s regularly since we arrive and Sunday we all celebrated our new status here in the United States.
We are very grateful to all of the people of St. Patrick’s, for your very warm welcome and all the prayers offered during the months of preparing and particularly during the interview in SF on Jan. 10. We are especially grateful for prayers as we awaited the answer.

Hey St. Patrick's!

Yesterday, we had a lovely walk through the beautiful trees. We enjoyed the lush greenery that surrounded us. It was just the four of us; Mary Field, Susan Boak, Miriam Casey, & our four legged pal, Brooklyn! Even though it was a small group we still had a great time, loved being outside, and enjoyed the fellowship!

Our monthly walks are scheduled on the second Tuesday of the month and our next one will fall on March 12th at 10 a.m. Join us!
Please contact Miriam Casey for more details at (707) 843-7096.
A new Women's Bible Study will begin at St. Patrick’s. Pam Hamel and Miriam Casey will be leading this ministry. The women will be meeting on Thursday mornings at 9:30 AM in the Common Room at the church.  The study will be based on the Revised Common Lectionary Calendar with sessions focusing on the readings for each Sunday. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the Bible in general, as well as getting a preview of what will be happening on Sunday mornings.  Lectionary study guides will be available for $10.00 and coffee and pastries will be served. Our first meeting will be Thursday, February, 28th!
Call Miriam Casey at 707-843-7096 for more details or to reserve a place at the table.
  Spring Lake Dinner Group

The Spring Lake group’s first meeting was hosted by Barbara Fry, who provided splendid hors d’oeuvres and drinks in her apartment. 14 people attended, with two more traveling – which makes 16 who are participating at this time. The group decided to meet every two months, gathering for hors d’oeuvres in the Village Center (which is easy for everyone to reach).  For those who are interested in dinner afterwards, that month’s host will make dining room reservations.

For more information, or to join us, email Donna Ross at donna@faithmatters.us (preferred) or call 579-6871.

If you don't like in the Spring Lake area, you may contact Eleanor Albon:  281-610-8043 or ralbon@aol.com
For Sunday, February 17th, we would like to thank Margaret Merchat for hosting the 8:30 coffee hour. We also would like to thank Miriam Casey & Pam Hamel for hosting coffee hour after the 10:30 service!
The Parish really enjoys this special time together and it means so much for each volunteer to be a part of it. If you enjoy meeting visitors and sharing time with other members of the St. Patrick’s family, please consider hosting a coffee hour.  Sign up sheets are in Stevenson Hall. Thanks so much!

First female bishop of Northern California elected:
The Reverend Canon Megan M. Traquair

The Reverend Canon Megan M. Traquair was elected the eighth bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California at the diocese's Special Electing Convention on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Faith Episcopal Church, Cameron Park.

Bishop-Elect Megan is the first woman to be elected as bishop, selected from the first slate to ever include female candidates in the diocese of Northern California.

Rev. Canon Megan was elected on the third ballot with a vote of 151 lay delegates and 85 clergy. To be elected required a majority of both orders on the same ballot. The other candidates were The Rev. Matthew D. Cowden, The Rev. Christopher Brooke Craun, The Rev. Canon Andrea McMillin, and The Rev. Randall R. Warren.

Rev. Canon Megan is currently Canon to the Ordinary in the Diocese of Arizona. Her husband Philip is a pediatrician at Phoenix Children's Hospital. They have been partners and best friends as well as parents. They have two children: Hannah who teaches high school in Tucson, and Benjamin, who is an engineer in Colorado.
Notified of the election results, Megan said:

"It is with joy and gratitude that I accept your call to serve as the Eighth Bishop of the Diocese Northern California. I thank the Search, Transition and Standing Committees for their careful preparations and loving-kindness during these months.  Dozens of your leaders put in sacrificial amounts of time and energy to help the Diocese arrive at a common mind in Christ.  I am grateful. You are all - members, clergy and churches - very much in my prayers.  Philip and I are excited to make our home with you in Northern California.  This summer, by the grace of God, we will begin to practice the Jesus Movement together - in faith, reconciliation and service."

Bishop Barry L. Beisner said:

"As one who deeply loves this Diocese, I am personally most grateful to all five candidates for their faithful participation in this very demanding process. By making themselves available to the Holy Spirit in this way, they have given us a great gift. May they all be blessed. I ask all the people of God to join me in praying God's blessing upon The Rev. Canon Megan Traquair, our Bishop-Elect. God strengthen and sustain her in this time of profound transition to new ministry, and to an exciting opportunity to serve our Lord in Northern California."

Providing the Standing Committee receives the consents from a majority of the bishops of the Church and a majority of the Standing Committees of the dioceses, the consecration is scheduled for June 29, 2019 at the Mondavi Center in Davis. Presiding Bishop Michael Curry will preside.

O God, by your grace you have called us in this Diocese to a
goodly fellowship of faith. Bless our Bishop, Barry L. Biesner,
our Bishop-Elect, The Rev. Canon Megan Traquair,
other clergy, and all our people. Grant that your Word
may be truly preached and truly heard, your Sacraments
faithfully administered and faithfully received. By your
Spirit, fashion our lives according to the example of your
Son, and grant that we may show the power of your love to
all among whom we live; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
