Robert Maggi

Title:
Director of Maintenance

Favorite BPC Spot:
Rector Park

The son of Italian immigrants and a native of Corona, Queens, Rob Maggi attended Queens College where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. Shortly after graduation, Rob became a sales representative for Nabisco and worked part-time on weekends and during summers as an electrician for his father’s business. In January 2000, Rob saw an ad for an electrician position at the then-Battery Parks City Parks Conservancy; he immediately went for an interview and was hired in January 2000. Now a certified Master Electrician, Rob has since been promoted to Foreman, and, in 2017, to Director of Maintenance.

Battery Park City has reaped the benefits of Mr. Maggi’s talents ever since. And the feeling’s mutual: “It’s never been a job to me,” Rob says. “I can’t believe they pay me to do this.” His passion is evident, with examples of his work including restoration of the famous blue lights of South Cove in the early 2000s and, more recently, devising the tree lighting design for Battery Park City’s annual Holiday Lights celebration. Rob oversees BPCA's Maintenance department of 47 employees, which includes carpenters, electricians, plumbers, welders, technicians, and maintenance supervisors.

We are truly lucky to have someone as talented as Rob, who prior to his role at BPA did electrical work for a diverse range of clients including the late Congressman and Senator John Heinz of Pennsylvania, world-famous dancer and choreographer Rudolph Nureyev, and actress Brooke Shields. Still, it’s Rob’s work here in Battery Park City of which he’s proudest. He gleams with joy describing his responsibilities in working in this “city within a city”, and describes Battery Park City as the Jewel of New York.

In his spare time, he enjoys riding his Harley Davidson and vacationing in Europe with his wife and two children. Make sure to say hello or ciao to Rob when you see him, since he is fluent in Italian!
