Wildlife Hide Photography
Common Buzzard Buteo buteo - Wiltshire
November 2018
Many thanks for attending my talk to the Devizes Camera Club on Tuesday and for signing up for my newsletter. Great to meet so many interesting people and hope the talk went down well!

I talked about the wildlife photography buzzard and red kite hide near Avebury and here are the details. I now have dates available for March so please do have a look if you're interested on my hide bookings page or pass on this newsletter to anyone you think might like to visit. For past newsletters you can view them here and for other photo tours or workshops that I run you can view these specific pages on my website too.

Further dates may be added for April depending on bird activity and if you wish to be notified specifically about new dates then please let Oliver know. Otherwise the hide will reopen after the summer around October/November time.

Booking Information

A wonderful, unique and exciting opportunity to photograph wild Common Buzzard & Red Kite at a private farm location in Wiltshire.

The bird activity this autumn and winter has been excellent with many clients enjoying the spectacle and of course the comfortable hide. Close portraits, action or behaviour can all be observed and photographed during your full day session. The hide offers up to three people from the same group to book.

For full details of the hide sessions please visit Oliver's Hides page to view the availability calendar and to book. The price is £130 per person for a full day session. Your group may book up to three people. Your group will be able to use all three shooting ports or you can have multiple lenses set up if you're on your own. I recommend a 200-400mm lens reach for action and a 500-600mm lens for portraits. I also use teleconverters when I really want to get in close!

The images in this newsletter were all taken on the same day during a quick three hour session but all shot within one hour of incredible action! For more images taken at the venue please visit Oliver's Hides page.
The Hide

Waterproof, warm and a perfect setup for nature photography the hide will give you comfort as well as an amazing opportunity to capture some stunning images of some of our iconic raptor species. Features include three shooting ports, one-way viewing glass, heater, loo, drinks and plenty of space to make yourself comfortable.

Location of the farm is 15 minutes south of junction 15 or 16 of the M4. Full arrangements sent on booking. Contact Oliver on 07802 417810 if you have any further questions.
The Birds

During my short visit in early November a total of ten Common Buzzard were visiting at one time. Even this week in February 6-7 buzzards were visiting at once. Red Kite is also a regular daily visitor along with cheeky Carrion Crow, Magpie and Raven. Occasionally other birds including Stonechat, Meadow Pipit and Starling and a few others may also show up too during your session. For more images that I shot on 13th February can be viewed on my Facebook page.
Coming Up

My next full newsletter will be sent out in late April following my next tour to Ethiopia. There are still a couple of spaces left if you're interested.

Any comments or feedback please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes,
Oliver Smart
