Can Human-Centered Design Bring Women to the Forefront of Social Transformation in Emerging Markets?

Redwood City - February 21st - RSVP Now
Human-centered design has become quite popular and this can be a positive and a negative. In emerging markets in particular, inclusive approaches that engage stakeholders tend to be more effective: Creating products, services, programs, and systems that better meet real human needs.

Human-centered design can thoroughly root efforts in a deeper understanding of local context, culture, and dynamics. Some would argue that getting this right is the most critical question to enabling transformational, locally-led growth and quality of life in emerging markets.

But there is a wide variance in the efficacy of different human-centered design efforts. Some approaches have been more thoughtful and effective, and others have produced more hype than impact.

Please RSVP now for the next Technology Salon to explore human-centered design with an emphasis on how it can advance the inclusion of women in emerging markets from Myanmar to Tanzania.

We’ll have a dynamic discussion, diving into questions such as:
  • What are best practices in human-centered design by and for women in development programs?
  • Which methodologies effectively include women in the design of mobile and internet-based products?
  • What strategies can address cultural and religious limitations that preclude women from being engineers, designers, and community leaders?
  • Are the criteria of emerging markets unique from those in developed countries for ensuring women can lead in the design stage? How so?
  • What are examples of how human-centered design has failed so that we avoid repeating past mistakes?
Please RSVP now to join these thought leaders for a vibrant discussion on the present and future of human-centered design: We’ll have coffee and breakfast treats for a morning rush, but seating is limited to ensure an intimate discussion. Be sure to RSVP quickly. Once we reach our 35- person capacity there will be a waiting list!
