I am certain of nothing but the holiness of the heart’s affections... ~ John Keats

Come on St. Valentine, how about a high-five? Baby, our love song must survive. ~ OtR

L&K

Dear extended musical family,

Happy Valentine’s Day. No matter the circumstances you find yourself in, our hope is that you find a few moments to lean in close to your heart’s affections.

We thought we would take the occasion to catch you up on the news in our world. Let’s start with new music.

L&R

We are so happy to announce that we have a new record called Love & Revelation releasing on March 15. It feels so good to have new songs afoot. Pre-order now and you can download the title track immediately. Thanks to all of you who pitched in early to help us cultivate new music.

And thanks to American Songwriter magazine for their exclusive premier today of the first song on the record, Los Lunas. You can listen here. Enjoy.

Need a soulful surprise for yourself or someone you love? Something to look forward to? Make plans to join us on the farm this Memorial Day Weekend, for Nowhere Else Festival. Single day tickets are now available. Enjoy discounted prices while they last. We’ll be announcing the full line-up soon, but here’s just a taste of some of the amazing things to come.

JPW
Singer songwriter John Paul White will make his Nowhere Else Festival debut. Maybe you heard John in his previous band, The Civil Wars. Regardless, his work ethic is as profound as his soaring voice, and it’s obvious he can’t rest until he catches and releases the great songs that continue to haunt him.
LN
Singer songwriter Leigh Nash will make her Nowhere Else Festival debut this year. Our paths crossed years ago when Leigh was fronting a band called Sixpence None The Richer. We were privileged to recently share a stage on several occasions with Leigh and were stunned to hear the new songs she has been writing. She’ll make you laugh out loud with her between song banter, but prepare to shed significant healing tears when she starts singing.

And there will be plenty of familiar faces, of course. Festival favorites Birds of Chicago will be returning for their fourth year in a row — we’re on a roll! They bring a soulfulness and a beautiful love all their own.
Horses
Award-winning, Texas-based photographer Rodney Bursiel, who captured the stunning cover image we used on the cover of our new album, Love & Revelation, will be joining us once again, and sharing his work.

And of course, Over the Rhine will make a holy ruckus with the Band of Sweethearts at various points throughout the weekend as we mark our 30th anniversary of writing, recording and life on the road. It’s going to be quite a gathering. We are so looking forward to this — our annual extended musical family reunion, a weekend bursting at the seams with music, art, conversation, big skies. Stay tuned for much more.

SONGWRITING WORKSHOP. March 22-25, 2019 You are invited to join us on our farm for a weekend long deep dive into the mystery of songwriting. The workshop experience is all about taking a few steps forward in your songwriting life, regardless of whether you are just starting out, or have been writing and recording for years. The workshop is helpful to writers and creative people of any persuasion, not just songwriters. And if you have no intention of writing, but just love music and records, hopefully this workshop will deepen your ability to listen. We need good listeners too. Email overtherhineofficial@gmail.com for details.

Finally, we’d love to see you not only on the farm, but in many of the wonderful places we’ll be visiting this spring, our suitcases bursting with songs — brand new as well as tried and true.

Take care of each other.

Till we meet again,
Love & Revelation,

Linford & Karin

And we will let Mary Oliver have the final word on this Valentine’s Day:

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting --
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

~Mary Oliver
