Petition: Renewable Resources at Fordham

The members of USG Sustainability Committee strongly urge Fordham University to commit our campus to a goal of powering all buildings and vehicles with clean, renewable energy by 2040, in compliance with Governor Cuomo’s energy goal for the entirety of New York. As part of that goal, we urge Fordham to power all campus lighting with renewable energy by 2030. Fordham has the opportunity to reflect its Jesuit values and act as a leader of sustainability for other Jesuit universities, and we believe that this goal is worth pursuit. Sign the petition now!

OPPORTUNITIES

Girls on the Move Symposium

Topic: Women and Girls on the Move: Stories of Forced Migration, Challenges, and Innovative Solutions

According to the United Nations, one person is forcibly displaced from their home every two seconds by conflict, persecution or community violence. Of the record, 68.5 million refugees, asylum seekers, stateless and displaced persons documented in the last fiscal year, up to 80% are women and youth. Within this population, 52% are children under age 18, an unprecedented percentage of whom are unaccompanied minors forced to migrate and seek international protection without the support of appropriate caregivers.  In addressing the annual theme of the United Nation's 63rd Commission on the Status of Women, social protections and public services, this forum will examine displaced women and girls' access to healthcare, education, justice, humanitarian and social protections throughout migration and in resettlement,  Sharing stories of migration and integration, struggles of the journey as well as best practices and responses that make a difference, we can all contribute to building innovative solutions.

Guidelines

Please submit a 250-word abstract describing the specific aspect of forced migration you will address, as well as the components of your poster, to Dr. Sandra Turner, at sturner@fordham.edu, before 11:59 pm on March 8, 2019.  The abstracts should be sent in Word or PDF format, and emailed as an attachment.  All abstracts will be reviewed by separate judges, representing participant universities, UN NGOs, and migration scholars and professionals. The top three posters will be announced by March 12, 2019.  Participants will be invited to display nad present their posters at the Women and Girls on the Move Symposium on March 16, 2019.  Prizes will be awarded for the best posters.
