Dear Kennedy Families,

What a winter we're having!  I hope your family is finding positive time together while at home.  We look forward to warmer days when we can be consistent with school routines.

Sincerely,

Announcements

Middle Level Activity Day: Powder Ridge

If your child signed up to go to Powder Ridge for middle level activity day, please know that he or she is required to wear a helmet.  Helmet rentals are free.  Our staff cannot monitor usage of every student on the slopes.  Please take time reinforce this safety expectation at home.  We will also have a safety meeting prior to departing that day.  Your support is appreciated.

Bus Driver Appreciation Week

Next week marks bus driver appreciation.  Please take a moment to share your thanks for the safe, diligent work of our bus drivers.  At Kennedy, student council will deliver treats on Monday.  Our classrooms also made thank you cards for delivery each day.

Digital Citizenship

Think your child's devices are free of dangerous content? See these facts and be diligent. If you don't know how to access your child's accounts or device, it's time to change that.

ACCESS Test

ACCESS 2.0 testing is approaching.  All multilingual learners are required by the MDE to take ACCESS 2.0 once a year. The testing window for Kennedy is February 19 - March 1.

All multilingual students are tested in four domains: Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing. Multilingual learner teachers will conduct this assessment in the Eaglet Lab. Students have this unique opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in English.  MDE scores the assessments and send the results directly to families in August.  For questions related to the assessment or interpretation of scores, please contact Emily Elmquist at Emily.Elmquist@isd742.org for grades K-3, and Eralda Jesku-Rubel at Eralda.Jesku-Rubel@isd742.org for grades 4-8.

National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)

Randomly selected grade 8 students (done by NAEP) will take this assessment next Tuesday.  If your child was selected, you received a letter from me in past weeks.  Please be sure your child gets a good night's sleep and breakfast that day.  Thank you!

Middle Level Community Conversation

We have rescheduled the conversation for February 28 from 5:30-6:30 pm in the Team Room.  We will also hold a Social Media Use and Awareness Information session from 6:45-7:45.  All families are invited though the content will be geared for families with children in grades 5-8.  We hope to see you there!

Middle Level Registration

We sent course registration home with middle level students today.  For your convenience, I also sent it through email via Skylert.  Please review this information and help your child select courses for the 19-20 school year.  Forms are due to advisory teachers on March 1.
