It Makes My Toes Curl

We aren't big. It's just me and seven (incredible) freelancers. So it goes without saying that we can't grow by spending lavishly on ads.

We're constantly forced to come up with creative ways to punch above our weight, such as SEO.

But SEO scares me.

I think about bounce rates, backlinks, and redirects and it makes my toes curl.

To overcome my fear, I spent a week reading everything down to commentaries on the evolution of Google's algorithm over the past 20 years.

In there, I discovered a piece of treasure.

My revelation about SEO wizardry.

Where Companies Go Astray

In The News

Few people agonize over words like Benjamin Dreyer. As The New York Times writes, he "sees language the way an epicure sees food. And he finds sloppiness everywhere he looks."

Want to save some time? Dennis Shiao's newsletter Content Corner summarizes all that's good in content marketing.

What will life be like in the mirrorworld? Kevin Kelly, founder of Wired Magazine, imagines the near future when augmented reality (AR) is a thing. It sounds creepy, but it got me thinking: Who's going to write all that content?

Grammar Tip

When listing examples, remember:

'Like' implies comparison, 'such as' implies inclusion.

For instance:

"I work with companies like Box, Dropbox, and Bentobox," says you to work with similar companies, but not necessarily those exact ones.

"I work with companies such as Box, Dropbox, and Bentobox," says you work with those exact companies.

Work Tip

This week, seniors are all the rage.

Hubspot (yes, Hubspot!) needs a senior staff writer
Scentbird needs a senior copywriter
Skillshare needs a senior copywriter
Bentobox needs a copywriter
TheSkimm needs a managing editor of branded content

Freelancers, why not ask if they'd consider part-time? 🤙
